The International Transport Rack(ITR) ... launched inside the SPACEHAB Logistic Double Module (LDM), will offer the transport potential for various drawer payloads. Beside the provision of passive mechanical interfaces for lockers and different types of drawers up to 12 panel units (PU, 1PU = 4.45cm), the ITR will also be equipped with resources for power, cooling and data handling. The ITR features the support of the logistic ISS re-supply and the operation of user payloads during the flight to/from the ISS.

OBS

The ITR design is based on a modular concept and includes the capabilities necessary to operate active payloads : The main ITR functions are implemented in four units : Rack Structure Power Distribution Unit(PDU) [;] Thermal subsystem Command & Data handling subsystem(Laptop Unit).

OBS

Specification Guidelines for Concrete Modular Retaining Wall... Special considerations : 1) Geogrid can be interrupted by periodic penetration of column, pier or footing structure. 2) If site conditions will not allow geogrid embedment length, consider these alternatives :-KEYSTONE can be designed and built as a reinforced masonry unit wall. Cores will accept vertical reinforcing and grout.-Deadman-tie-back anchor option reduces or eliminates excavation and backfill requirements.

CONT

The open networked organization is based on cooperative, multidisciplinary teams and businesses networked together across the enterprise. Rather than a rigid structure, it is a modular organizational architecture in which business teams operate as a network of... client and server functions.... As servers, they receive requests or directions from clients,... and add value for the purpose of serving these clients. The new model is derived from Michael Porter's concept of "value chain, "but extended into the notion of a value network--reflecting the rise of the open networked enterprise.... The provision of value is not something chained in a linear way, but rather generated through an ever-changing open network. It is a model designed to encourage flexibility, innovation, entrepreneurship, and responsiveness.

The open networked organization is based on co-operative, multidisciplinary teams and businesses networked together across the enterprise. Rather than a rigid structure, it is a modular organizational architecture in which business teams operate as a network of... client and server functions. Teams are both clients and servers for other teams, who are both internal and external to the organization.... It is a model designed to encourage flexibility, innovation, entrepreneurship, and responsiveness.

OBS

a new form of corporate structure that is replacing the traditional hierarchical structure. (Based on TAPIT, 1993, p. 33.)

OBS

The new organization has many other names. ... Peter Drucker calls it the networked organization. For Rosabeth Moss Kanter, it’s dancing elephants. For Peter Keen, it’s the relational organization. For Tom Peters, it’s life without hierarchy. For D. Quinn Mills, it’s the cluster organization. Charles Savage calls it human networking.

A schematic diagram of a modular concrete canister disposal (MCCD) facility is shown in Figure 5.5. Modular concrete canister disposal consists of placing individual waste containers in modular concrete structures (i.e. overpacking the individual waste containers in concrete canisters) and disposing of the concrete canisters in shallow low trenches below natural grade. Except for the use of the concrete canisters, the physical details of belowground modular concrete canister disposal closely resemble those of shallow land disposal (in that disposal is below grade with shallow cover) and belowground vaults (in that structured capability is also provided by the facility).

CONT

Modular concrete canister disposal. Figure 11 shows the canister disposal option. Its main characteristics are that :. wastes are placed in concrete canisters that can then be placed either in shallow, below-grade trenches or above grade on a concrete pad;. there is a shallow earthen cover over the waste trenches containing the canisters(earth or soil may be mounded over the canisters in the above-ground version) ;. structural stability is provided by each canister;. the structure is modular in nature; and. safety may be enhanced in future by additional engineered barriers.

Modular companies aren’t a fad. Their streamlined structure fits today's tumultuous, fast-moving marketplace. Outsourcing noncore activities yields two advantages : First, it holds down the unit costs and investment needed to turn out new products rapidly. Second, it frees companies to direct scare capital where they hold a competitive advantage. [The idea is to] focus on a core competency and outsource the rest.

OBS

module: a structural unit or component with a specific function in a larger unit or system.

OBS

Using the modular model, companies can achieve rapid growth with small amounts of capital and a compact management.
