MODULARITY [11 records]

Record 1 2025-01-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemistry
DEF

The use of a range of synthetic reactions, [especially] in biochemistry, that are simple to perform, efficient, versatile, and give high yields of desired products.

CONT

The mechanism underlying click chemistry revolves around the concept of modularity and simplicity. The term "click" describes reactions that are wide in scope, easy to perform, high-yielding, and stereospecific, while also being insensitive to oxygen and water. The most famous example is the copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition(CuAAC), which has been widely employed for its simplicity and efficiency.

One of Java's most important features is its modularity. While a program can have many features, features can be implemented as small, reusable, and independent modules, called Java "beans". Users only download features as they need them, which keeps the program size small. In addition, modules can be mixed and matched at will to create new programs.

The rule-based representation has the same modularity as the decomposition of the knowledge into issues. However, unlike WEST's black-box expert, WUSOR-I's expert is itself built out of these rules. Hence, it explicitly contains the issues to be conveyed and uses them for its performance. This pedagogical transparency of the representation of expertise will have important implications for the subsequent developments towards a more elaborate tutor.

Dans la plupart des systèmes experts [...] les connaissances sont représentées sous forme de règles de production. L'avantage de la représentation sous forme de règles de production est que les connaissances peuvent être exploitées par des moteurs d'inférence qui sont des algorithmes simples.
