MOLD PIN [8 records]

Record 1 2014-04-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
  • Facilities and Equipment (Rubber)
DEF

An edge gate where the opening from the runner into the mold is located below the parting line or mold surface ...

CONT

A submarine gate penetrates through the steel of the cavity. When the mold opens, the part sticks to the cavity and shears the piece at the gate. A properly located KO [knockout] pin, using the flexibility of the plastic, ejects the runner and pulls out the gate. This type of gate is usually used in automatic molds.

OBS

[In] conventional edge gating, ... the opening is machined into the surface of the mold. [In] submarine gates, the item is broken from the runner system on ejection from the mold.

OBS

submarine gate; tunnel gate: terms standardized by ISO [International Organization for Standardization].

DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
OBS

In most processes, the air that expands the parison against the mold cavity must enter through blow pin tooling, which is available in four basic styles : simple tube, needle, ram down or calibrated prefinish, and pull-up prefinish. With the tube style, the mold is closed around the parison, which is closed and sealed around the tube. The tube usually enters the cavity through the center of the extrusion mandrel.

OBS

In most processes, the air that expands the parison against the mold cavity must enter through blow pin tooling, which is available in four basic styles : simple tube, needle, ram down or calibrated prefinish, and pull-up prefinish.... With the needle style, a hypodermic-shaped needle is pierced through the parison from some remote position in the mold after the mold has closed. The location of the hole on the part is usually inconspicuous or hidden from view.

DEF

Projection that pushes the ejector assembly back as the mold closes; also called safety pin and position push-back.

CONT

There are four push-back pins attached to the four corners of the mold KO [knockout] plate; they are flush with the mold surface when the mold is closed, and move forward with the KO plate. When the mold closes, these pins contact the other side of the mold before the KO pins and force the mold KO plate back to its original position without damaging the tips of the KO pins.

CONT

... attaching commercial sockets of forged steel to wire rope ends ... The wire rope is seized at the end and another seizing is applied at a distance from the end equal to the length of the basket of the socket ... For large ropes, the seizing should be several inches long. The end seizing is now removed and the strands are separated so that the fiber core can be cut back to the next siezing. The individual wires are then untwisted and "broomed out" and for the distance they are to be inserted in the socket are carefully cleaned with benzine, naphtha, or unleaded gasoline.

CONT

There are three types of zinced endings : A cone is formed from molten zinc poured into a mold in which a frayed rope end has been inserted; sometimes a ferrule is used as mold and stays on after pouring the zinc; or sockets are used instead of the ferrule. An open socket has ears to hold a pin and cotter. A closed socket has a loop or "bail. "Both are heavy forgings and find widespread use. All three zinced on endings need a good deal of preparation. The rope's end must be broomed out, cleaned with acid and straightened. Special endings : such as thimbles, clips, and clamps are quicker and easier to apply than a zinc socket, but efficiency is not as high as with other attachments.

CONT

In the common rising mold type of machine, the blow mold rises from below to close around the tube; the blow pin enters from the bottom.

OBS

The [continuous extrusion blow-molding] process has three subcategories: the rising mold method, the rotary method, and the shuttle method. In the rising mold method, the parison is continuously extruded directly above the mold cavity. When it is at the proper length, the mold rises quickly to capture the parison and returns downward to the blow station. After blowing the bottle, the mold opens, the part is removed, and the process repeats.

Domaine(s)

CONT
