Record 2 2015-07-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
DEF

A mould in which the runners are kept at a temperature that is higher than the solidification temperature of the material.

CONT

Hot runner molds. Thermoplastic runners are reground and reused. A logical extension of the three-plate mold overcomes this and is called a hot runner mold. This mold has a hot runner plate, which is a block of steel heated with electric cartridges, thermostatically controlled. This keeps the plastic fluid. The material is received from the injection cylinder and is forced through the hot runner blocks into the cavities. It is a more difficult mold to build and operate than a three-plate mold, but produces parts less expensively on longer-running jobs.

OBS

In injection moulding.

DEF

Projection that pushes the ejector assembly back as the mold closes; also called safety pin and position push-back.

CONT

There are four push-back pins attached to the four corners of the mold KO [knockout] plate; they are flush with the mold surface when the mold is closed, and move forward with the KO plate. When the mold closes, these pins contact the other side of the mold before the KO pins and force the mold KO plate back to its original position without damaging the tips of the KO pins.

CONT

Pulforming is an offshoot of pultrusion. Resin-wet reinforcement is pulled through female mold cavities. The molds rotate on a turntable. The female cavities are enclosed by co-rotating male mold halves placed over them, or the female molds are covered by a rotating contact plate or belt. Each part cures as the closed mold rotates toward a cutoff station.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Plasturgie
CONT

OBS

Le pulforming est quelquefois appelé pultrusion courbe.

CONT

Insulated runner molds. A combination between a hot runner mold and a three-plate mold is called an insulated runner mold. The gating system is very similar to that of a three-plate mold except that the runners are very thick, at least 1 3/4in.(45mm) in diameter. There is no runner plate, and the backup plate and A plate are held together by latches. After the material is injected, the outside of the runner freezes but insulates the center, permitting the core to remain fluid at molding temperatures and act as a hot runner.
