Record 1 1997-11-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
CONT

The pinch-off areas pinch the ends of the plastic parison and seal the edges together when the mold closes. These surfaces are subject to more wear than any other part of the mold.... Steel inserts often are used for the pinch-off areas of mold of the softer metals.

CONT

Dividing the cavity from the flash pocket is the pinch-off. The pinch-off has a dual role: it must seal the open ends of the parison and, at the same time, cut the flash from the bottle.

CONT

A variation of conventional compression molding, this process uses two metal molds having a close-fitting, telescoping area to seal in the plastic compound being molded and to trim the reinforcement. The reinforcement, usually mat or preform, is positioned in the mold, and the mold is closed and heated(pressures generally vary between 150 and 400 lb/in. ²). Mold is then opened and part lifted out.

CONT
