Record 1 2020-04-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Industry
CONT

Purging compound, specifically commercial purging compound, is a product formulated specifically to clean thermoplastics molding machines and extruders. Purging compound is also used for color and material changes, removal of color and carbon deposits as well as cleaning hot runner mold.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
DEF

The process of moulding a thermosetting material by passage from a heated pot into the cavity of a closed, heated mould.

CONT

For some applications, it is desirable to close the mold first and then introduce the molding compound in its fluid state through a small opening or gate leading to the mold cavity or cavities. This technique is called transfer or plunger molding.

OBS

In as much as most modern-day transfer molding utilizes hydraulically actuated plungers, the term transfer molding will be used ... to refer to the plunger molding process, not the pot-type molding process.

OBS

transfer moulding: term and definition standardized by ISO.

CONT

A variation of conventional compression molding, this process uses two metal molds having a close-fitting, telescoping area to seal in the plastic compound being molded and to trim the reinforcement. The reinforcement, usually mat or preform, is positioned in the mold, and the mold is closed and heated(pressures generally vary between 150 and 400 lb/in. ²). Mold is then opened and part lifted out.

Domaine(s)
  • Plasturgie
CONT
