MONSOON CLIMATE [3 records]

Record 1 2022-09-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Climate Change
  • Climatology
CONT

Plateau uplift in the past 40 million years could have accelerated the chemical weathering cycle by creating monsoon rains and rapid runoff on freshly faulted slopes. These changes may have significantly decreased atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, lessened the greenhouse effect and cooled the climate worldwide.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Changements climatiques
  • Climatologie
CONT

Record 2 2020-07-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
CONT

As regional climate systems are playing an essential role in the global equilibrium of the planet and are conditioning the living conditions of the populations inhabiting the inter-tropical belt, the monsoons are a privileged subject of study at the intersection of several disciplinary fields. This is especially true for the West African monsoon(WAM) associated with a severe drought for the past 30 years, with significant consequences for key resources as water, agriculture, and health.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Phénomènes météorologiques, climatiques et atmosphériques
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Titles of International Programs
  • Atmospheric Physics
OBS

The GEWEX(Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment) Asian Monsoon Experiment(GAME) is proposed to investigate the role of the Asian monsoon as a major part of the energy and water cycles in the global climate system, and to understand the feedback processes involved in the monsoon system, particularly in radiation, clouds and land surface hydrology, associated with its intraseasonal, seasonal and interannual variability. To determine the impact of the planetary-scale Asian monsoon variability on regional or basin-scale hydrological cycle and water management is another essential part of this program. That is also compatible with the main objectives of GEWEX.
