One very interesting project involves the interplanetary Internet(IPN), which is being designed as a network that connects a series of internets. These internets would be located on planets and moons or aboard spacecraft. The IPN will need to embody an inherent design that allows for long transmission times, bandwidth constraints, blockage, lost data, and constantly moving sources. It will form a backbone that connects a series of hubs on or around planets, space vehicles, and at other points in space.

The technology of pneumatic impact wrenches is different from that of other portable fastening machines with rotor stalling which operate on the basis of the dynamic stall torque. After a certain movement of the rotor and of the moving masses, all or most of the rotational kinetic energy is transformed in the form of impacts. These impacts are received tangentially on the output shaft, which is not directly mechanically linked with the rotor, thus creating a succession of instantaneous rotational torques of irregular values which are transmitted to the part to be screwed. The number of impacts per revolution would depend on the design of the impact wrench.

Heteroduplex is double-stranded DNA in which the two DNA strands do not show perfect base complementarity. When DNA is denatured, the two strands are separated. On renaturation or annealing, complementary DNA strands reassociate and form a homoduplex. However, when there is a mutation in one of the strands then a heteroduplex is formed. The electrophoretic mobility of heteroduplex in polyacrylamide gel is less than that of homoduplex, and they can be detected as an extra slow moving bands. Resolution is better in specially formulated gel matrices(Hydro-link, MDE, etc.). In fragments of under 200 bp insertions, deletions and most single base substitutions are detected. Heteroduplex analysis is mostly used combined with single confirmation analysis(SSCA) on a single gel.

Parent material, in soil science, means the underlying geological material(generally bedrock or a superficial or drift deposit) in which soil horizons form. Soils typically get a great deal of structure and minerals from their parent material. Parent materials are made up of consolidated or unconsolidated mineral material that has undergone some degree of physical or chemical weathering.... Parent material is classified by its last means of transport. So material that was transported to a location by glacier, then deposited elsewhere by streams, that material is classified as stream transported parent material, or fluvial parent material. Glacial till refers to material dragged with a moving ice sheet. Because it is not transported with liquid water, the material is not sorted by size.

La surface du sol est souvent appauvrie en éléments fins, en fer et en calcium sous l'effet de l'infiltration des eaux de pluie, phénomène connu sous le nom de lessivage. «B», dit «horizon d'accumulation», reçoit les éléments lessivés de A. Il existe des sols sans horizon B. Enfin, «C» désigne le «matériau d'origine» à partir duquel se forme le sol et «R» la roche brute sous-jacente. Les horizons se laissent parfois diviser en sous-couches.

Un sol est formé d'une fraction minérale issue des roches du sous-sol, d'humus et d'une multitude d'êtres vivants. Il provient le plus souvent de la dégradation de roches originelles dites matériau parental. Celles-ci subissent peu à peu et selon les conditions climatiques et biologiques des transformations plus ou moins profondes qui aboutissent à une couche de sol plus ou moins épaisse aux caractéristiques particulières.

The process of sealing pouches with a band sealer.

In band sealing, a pouch mouth is introduced between two moving bands, which are pressed by heated bars. The heat passes through the bands and into the pouch material, softening it for sealing. As the pouch continues along between the bands, the bands are next pressed together by chilled bars that withdraw heat form the pouch seal through the bands. The bands then progress to release the pouch. Band sealing is fast and widely used for closing pouches filled with product.

With his fists the baker stretches out the dough and folds it over on itself, repeating this stretching and folding over again and again. Grading is the process of moving soil to change the form of the land. Cutting is the removal of soil and filling is the addition of soil. Shrinkage factor is the volume of soil lost after cut material is placed as fill. It is usually desirable to balance the cut and fill at a site. Exporting or importing soil is a costly operation compared to moving soil on site. The cost of moving soil at the site is about 1/6 that of importing soil and about 1/3 that of exporting soil, unless of course the export material may be sold.
