Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Parent material, in soil science, means the underlying geological material(generally bedrock or a superficial or drift deposit) in which soil horizons form. Soils typically get a great deal of structure and minerals from their parent material. Parent materials are made up of consolidated or unconsolidated mineral material that has undergone some degree of physical or chemical weathering.... Parent material is classified by its last means of transport. So material that was transported to a location by glacier, then deposited elsewhere by streams, that material is classified as stream transported parent material, or fluvial parent material. Glacial till refers to material dragged with a moving ice sheet. Because it is not transported with liquid water, the material is not sorted by size. 3, record 6, English, - parent%20material
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The rock from which soil is formed is called parent material. The main types are: eolian, glacial till, glacial outwash, alluvium, lacustrine parent material and residual parent material, or bedrock. Pedologist uses the following formula for understanding soil formation: s = f (cl, o, r, p, t, ...) where s - soil properties; cl - regional climate; o - potential biota, r - topography; p - parent material; t - time; ... - additional variables. 4, record 6, English, - parent%20material

7, record 6, French, - mat%C3%A9riau%20parental

The MHD(magnetohydrodynamic) generator... transforms thermal energy or kinetic energy directly into electricity. MHD generators are different from traditional electric generators in that they can operate at high temperatures without moving parts. MHD was eagerly developed because the exhaust of a plasma MHD generator is a flame, still able to heat the boilers of a steam power plant. So high-temperature MHD was developed as a topping cycle to increase the efficiency of electric generation, especially when burning coal or natural gas. It has also been applied to pump liquid metals and for quiet submarine engines. 1, record 7, English, - magnetohydrodynamic%20generator

Record number: 10, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The thermometric element is most commonly either a bimetal strip or a Bourdon tube filled with a liquid. In the first case the bimetal element has the form of a helical coil with one end rigidly fastened to the instrument and the other to the recording pen. In the second case the tube is made with an elliptical cross section so that an expression of the liquid caused by a temperature increase will cause the radius or curvature of the bend to increase, thus moving the instrument pen, which is fastened to the tip of the tube. A resistance thermometer and a thermoelectric thermometer may be converted into thermographs if provision is made to record their output. 6, record 10, English, - thermograph

An asphalt distributor will spread a coating of asphalt over the surface, which is followed by a chipspreader placing the layer of rock. This rock is then rolled into place with a roller. This process should take about 20 minutes at any one location. No traffic is allowed on the liquid asphalt, and traffic on the unrolled rock will be limited to critical traffic only. After rolling, the road will be reopened to light, slow moving traffic. There are small surface rocks that will roll off into the gutter. This is also normal, and city crews will sweep up the excess aggregate within 24 to 48 hours. Drivers are asked to keep speeds slow to avoid damage to the fresh surface and to avoid throwing loose rocks into windshields. 2, record 16, English, - excess%20aggregate

2, record 16, French, - granulats%20en%20exc%C3%A8s

Because of difficulty in transporting liquid wastes safely, the hydrofracture facility must be located near the source of the waste. A hydrofracture site requires large, generally impermeable (to nearby aquifers) layered formations that fracture horizontally. The surface area needed and visual impact of a hydrofracture facility are relatively small. Major barriers to nuclide release are the grout (waste form) and the geologic formation used. Perhaps the greatest problem with hydraulic injection is that there is little control of fracture propagation and it is not possible to define the final geometry of the grout/waste sheets from the surface. 2, record 22, English, - hydrofracture%20facility
