An acoustic survey is a method of gathering information on the abundance of a fish species using echo sounders. Sound is a form of energy which travels farther and faster underwater than in the air. So using the distance a sound travels and the record it makes when it bounces off of something underwater can tell a researcher a good deal about the creatures passing by underwater.

In an acoustic survey, a transducer emits a pulse of sound. The transducer can be either fixed or mounted on a moving vessel. The sound moves through the water until it bumps into something, such as a fish, and part of its energy is reflected back to the transducer. Another device, called an echo sounder, amplifies the returned energy and sends it to a recorder where it registers as a mark.

There are three different types of foam proportioners commonly used in the fire service : line eductors, balanced pressure proportioners, and around-the-pump proportioners. The line eductor is the simplest and least expensive proportioning device. It has no moving parts in the water way, which makes it durable and dependable. The line eductor may be attached to the hoseline or may be part of the nozzle. There are two different types of line eductors : the in-line eductor and the self-educting nozzle. Both types of eductors use the venturi principle to draft foam concentrate into the water stream. As water at high pressure passes over a reduced opening, it creates a low-pressure area near the outlet side of the eductor. This low-pressure area creates a suction effect. The eductor pickup tube is connected to the eductor at this low-pressure point. The pickup tube submerged in the foam concentrate draws concentrate into the water stream, creating a foam water solution.

This is stretching, or "warming up", by bouncing into(or out of) a stretched position, using the stretched muscles as a spring which pulls you out of the stretched position.... Do not confuse dynamic stretching with ballistic stretching! Dynamic stretching consists of controlled leg and arm swings that take you(gently!) to the limits of your range of motion. Ballistic stretches involve trying to force a part of the body beyond its range of motion. In dynamic stretches, there are no bounces or "jerky" movements.

The foxes, an endangered species in Canada, will be airlifted from Wyoming to Calgary, and then later released in southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan as part of the National Recovery Plan for the Swift Fox. The Canadian population disappeared from the prairies for somme time during the 1930s. A typical injection system... consists of a stainless steel ring with six different parts, one to the column. A movable Teflon cone within the ring has three open segments, each of which connects a pair of external parts. Two of the parts are connected by an external sample loop of known or fixed volume. In one configuration, the cone permits direct flow of effluent into the column, and the loop can be filled with the sample. The cone can be rotated 30° to make the sample loop part of the moving stream, which sweeps the sample into the column. Samples of few microliters can be injected at pressures up to 6000 psi.

Moving On looks at the problem of wife assault in London, Ontario where a coordinated effort by women's groups, transition house staff, social services agencies, police, lawyers and doctors have resulted in effective and innovative programs. The London Battered Women's Advocacy Clinic and Changing Ways, a therapy program for men who batter, are also part of the city's effort to break the cycle of violence.(A Safe Distance and Sylvie's Story are the other films in this series.)

In some machine-guns of the open bolt design, part of the trigger mechanism which can engage two alternative surfaces on the sear to operate it, the selector controlling which of these surfaces is engaged and thereby affecting the type of fire obtained. During automatic fire, the tripping lever is pushed down by the selector and holds the sear out of the way of the moving parts as long as the trigger is depressed. During single shot fire, the tripping lever is allowed to raise and is tripped immediately by the moving parts, releasing the sear to engage the bent, e. g. Bren light machine-gun.

The rotary oil burner is a horizontal atomizing unit consisting of only one moving part, a hollow steel shaft, on which are mounted the atomizing cup, the fan, and the motor rotor. These parts comprise the shaft assembly, which rotates on two ball bearings. The fuel oil is introduced by means of a stationary fuel tube extending through the centre of the hollow main shaft of the burner into the atomizing cup.... In the Ray rotary oil burner, the oil is introduced into the tail end of the fuel tube, passes through the tube, and flows out of the fuel tip into the back portion of the atomizing cup. The fuel tube and tip are stationary and the oil passages are such size that high pressure is not required to obtain the rated oil capacity.

Methods that use vision to locate a workpiece and the sites on it suitable for gripping have been reported by Birk(et al.) They proposed three approaches each of which utilizes two distinct phases called the instruction phase and the execution phase.... The first approach, called appearance acquisition uses an instruction phase to calibrate the system to the appearance of the workpiece. The robot reorients the workpiece by rotating it in two dimensions while keeping the origin of the workpiece coordinate system constant. As the part is rotated in pitch and roll, sample observations are made. Proper grip are sites are taught by placing the part in its final position, moving the robot to the end position, and having it grip in the copying mode. The robot's arm joint positions are recorded, and the relation between the gripper and the workpiece coordinate system is computed. When this relationship is reestablished, the system knows that the part is being grasped properly. In the execution phase workpieces in the supply bin are viewed by the vision system, which looks for the features sampled during the instruction phase.
