An acoustic survey is a method of gathering information on the abundance of a fish species using echo sounders. Sound is a form of energy which travels farther and faster underwater than in the air. So using the distance a sound travels and the record it makes when it bounces off of something underwater can tell a researcher a good deal about the creatures passing by underwater. 3, record 8, English, - hydroacoustic%20survey
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 OBS
In an acoustic survey, a transducer emits a pulse of sound. The transducer can be either fixed or mounted on a moving vessel. The sound moves through the water until it bumps into something, such as a fish, and part of its energy is reflected back to the transducer. Another device, called an echo sounder, amplifies the returned energy and sends it to a recorder where it registers as a mark. 3, record 8, English, - hydroacoustic%20survey

Record number: 10, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The technology of pneumatic impact wrenches is different from that of other portable fastening machines with rotor stalling which operate on the basis of the dynamic stall torque. After a certain movement of the rotor and of the moving masses, all or most of the rotational kinetic energy is transformed in the form of impacts. These impacts are received tangentially on the output shaft, which is not directly mechanically linked with the rotor, thus creating a succession of instantaneous rotational torques of irregular values which are transmitted to the part to be screwed. The number of impacts per revolution would depend on the design of the impact wrench. 1, record 10, English, - pneumatic%20impact%20wrench

Record number: 16, Textual support number: 2 CONT
There are three different types of foam proportioners commonly used in the fire service : line eductors, balanced pressure proportioners, and around-the-pump proportioners. The line eductor is the simplest and least expensive proportioning device. It has no moving parts in the water way, which makes it durable and dependable. The line eductor may be attached to the hoseline or may be part of the nozzle. There are two different types of line eductors : the in-line eductor and the self-educting nozzle. Both types of eductors use the venturi principle to draft foam concentrate into the water stream. As water at high pressure passes over a reduced opening, it creates a low-pressure area near the outlet side of the eductor. This low-pressure area creates a suction effect. The eductor pickup tube is connected to the eductor at this low-pressure point. The pickup tube submerged in the foam concentrate draws concentrate into the water stream, creating a foam water solution. 6, record 16, English, - in%2Dline%20foam%20concentrate%20inducer

Montée St-François Institution(MSF) is a 243-bed minimum-security penitentiary. Most of the programs delivered there are intended to address the criminogenic factors identified in the correctional plan of inmates who, in theory, are at the last stage in the custodial part of their sentence, before moving on to the community. The institution's proximity to Montreal makes it an excellent facility for day parole programs. MSF has developed partnerships with more than 25 community-based agencies, which take our residents for work releases, day parole and personal development projects, and escorted and unescorted temporary absences. 1, record 36, English, - Mont%C3%A9e%20St%2DFran%C3%A7ois%20Institution

1, record 36, French, - %C3%89tablissement%20Mont%C3%A9e%20Saint%2DFran%C3%A7ois

Dynamic stretching, according to Kurz, "involves moving parts of your body and gradually increasing reach, speed of movement, or both. "Do not confuse dynamic stretching with ballistic stretching! Dynamic stretching consists of controlled leg and arm swings that take you(gently!) to the limits of your range of motion. Ballistic stretches involve trying to force a part of the body beyond its range of motion. In dynamic stretches, there are no bounces or "jerky" movements. An example of dynamic stretching would be slow, controlled leg swings, arm swings, or torso twists. 1, record 48, English, - dynamic%20stretching

Horse latitudes, two belts of latitude where winds are light and the weather is hot and dry. They are located mostly over the oceans, at about 30° lat. in each hemisphere, and have a north-south range of about 5° as they follow the seasonal migration of the sun. The horse latitudes are associated with the subtropical anticyclone and the large-scale descent of air from high-altitude currents moving toward the poles. After reaching the earth's surface, this air spreads toward the equator as part of the prevailing trade winds or toward the poles as part of the westerlies. 3, record 54, English, - horse%20latitude

Foam Concentrate Proportioners. In order that a predetermined volume of liquid foam concentrate may be taken from its source and placed into a water stream to form a foam solution of fixed concentration, the following two general method classifications are made: 1. Methods which utilize the pressure energy of the water stream by venturi action and orifices to induct concentrate. ... 2. Methods which utilize external pumps or pressure heads to inject concentrate into the water stream at a fixed ratio to flow. 2, record 59, English, - line%20eductor

Whether washing is used or not, the wheat must be brought to a specific moisture content to prepare it for milling. This is achieved by several cycles of wetting and resting. In milling technology this is called tempering. The wetting is carried out in a damping conveyor where a controlled amount of water is sprayed on the moving wheat as it is conveyed slowly to the tempering bin where the wheat is allowed to rest for a predetermined period. Following the first tempering, the wheat may go through a second tempering cycle. A two stage tempering system is preferred over a single stage, since there are occasions when the moisture content of the grain must be increased by as much as 6. 0%. It is much easier to make this addition in two stages, separated by a rest period, to allow for proper distribution of moisture in the wheat kernel. Tempering the wheat to a proper moisture content is an essential part of the milling process. Optimal tempering toughens the bran and thereby facilitates its separation from the endosperm without extensive powdering. It also mellows the endosperm and this facilitates its reduction without excessive starch damage. 1, record 61, English, - wetting

1, record 61, French, - humidification

Approximately 20 American swift foxes will be moving to new homes on the Canadian prairie. The foxes, an endangered species in Canada, will be airlifted from Wyoming to Calgary, and then later released in southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan as part of the National Recovery Plan for the Swift Fox. The Canadian population disappeared from the prairies for somme time during the 1930s. A population estimated at 150-200 foxes appears to have found homes in the short-grass prairie in southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan. The ultimate aim of all participants in the reintroduction project is to see the swift fox become well enough established to permit its removal from the endangered species list. 1, record 71, English, - National%20Recovery%20Plan%20for%20the%20Swift%20Fox

Methods that use vision to locate a workpiece and the sites on it suitable for gripping have been reported by Birk(et al.) They proposed three approaches each of which utilizes two distinct phases called the instruction phase and the execution phase.... The first approach, called appearance acquisition uses an instruction phase to calibrate the system to the appearance of the workpiece. The robot reorients the workpiece by rotating it in two dimensions while keeping the origin of the workpiece coordinate system constant. As the part is rotated in pitch and roll, sample observations are made. Proper grip are sites are taught by placing the part in its final position, moving the robot to the end position, and having it grip in the copying mode. The robot's arm joint positions are recorded, and the relation between the gripper and the workpiece coordinate system is computed. When this relationship is reestablished, the system knows that the part is being grasped properly. In the execution phase workpieces in the supply bin are viewed by the vision system, which looks for the features sampled during the instruction phase. 1, record 86, English, - appearance%20acquisition
