Just as the radiosonde record has deficiencies, however, the satellite data also suffer from, among other things, limited vertical resolution, orbit drift, satellite platform changes, instrument drift, complications with calibration procedures, and the introduction of biases through modifications of processing algorithms. Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
One type of scanner is called a whiskbroom scanner also referred to as across-track scanners. It uses rotating mirrors to scan the landscape below from side to side perpendicular to the direction of the sensor platform, like a whiskbroom. The width of the sweep is referred to as the sensor swath. The rotating mirrors redirect the reflected light to a point where a single or just a few sensor detectors are grouped together. Whiskbroom scanners with their moving mirrors tend to be large and complex to build. The moving mirrors create spatial distortions that must be corrected with preprocessing by the data provider before image data is delivered to the user. An advantage of whiskbroom scanners is that they have fewer sensor detectors to keep calibrated as compared to other types of sensors. 5, record 5, English, - across%2Dtrack%20scanner

A staring sensor is one that can lock onto a point and compensate for the forward motion of the platform. This mitigates the areal change platform-induced problem, however, other motion problems will become significant. A staring sensor must compensate for pixel change as the platform moves toward or away from the chosen staring point. In this staring geometry, one will have to consider the drift induced by slightly imperfect aiming or imperfect stabilization. In all viewing modes, the stability of the platform is important, as any jitter or vibrations will be transformed into pixel motion on the ground. 3, record 7, English, - staring%20sensor

The MSS [Mobile Servicing System] consists of three main elements : the Space Station Remote Manipulator System(SSRMS), known as Canadarm2, the Mobile Base System(MBS), and the Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator(SPDM). Canadarm2 and the MBS, its platform, are essential tools for the assembly of the ISS.... The Space Station Remote Manipulator System(SSRMS), known as Canadarm2, is the first component of the Mobile Servicing System. Although similar to the Shuttle Canadarm, this 17-metre manipulator is somewhat larger and incorporates many advanced features, including the ability to self relocate. The arm has the capacity to handle large ISS modules and structural elements. It will initially be used to assemble the Station. In the future, it will capture and dock unmanned resupply spacecraft to the ISS and perform routine maintenance tasks. Canadarm2 will normally move along the Space Station on the Mobile Base System, but it also has the ability to "walk" from place to place by moving from one grapple fixture on the exterior of the structure to the next, like an inchworm.... It is equipped with four television cameras, two mounted on the booms and one near each tip. These cameras feed images to the astronauts operating the arm from the Robotic Workstation inside the Station. 12, record 12, French, - Canadarm2

In order to achieve proper operation in a moving vehicle, we must consider the Schuler-tuned mechanization of the inertial platform. Simply stated, the Schuler-tuned mechanization allows us to maintain a level platform in a moving vehicle. If the vehicle is at rest on the surface of the earth, the accelerometers sense the acceleration of the vehicle resulting from the ground pushing up on the vehicle. This acceleration is exactly that needed to balance the combination of the gravitational acceleration and the centrifugal acceleration resulting from the earth's rotation. 1, record 14, English, - Schuler%2Dtuned%20mechanization

The construction elevator, like the passenger elevator, consists of a car or platform that operates within a structural framework and is raised and lowered by cables. Because the elevator can move materials only in a vertical linear direction and because the materials so moved must subsequently be moved horizontally by other means, the elevator is limited to moving relatively light materials on jobs of small areas. 1, record 24, English, - construction%20elevator

3, record 24, French, - ascenseur%20de%20chantier
