in-line inductor: This type of proportioner educts or drafts foam concentrate from a container or tank by venturi action, utilizing the operating pressure of the hose water stream on which it is installed, injecting concentrate into that flow of water. 4, record 7, English, - in%2Dline%20foam%20concentrate%20inducer
Record number: 7, Textual support number: 2 CONT
There are three different types of foam proportioners commonly used in the fire service : line eductors, balanced pressure proportioners, and around-the-pump proportioners. The line eductor is the simplest and least expensive proportioning device. It has no moving parts in the water way, which makes it durable and dependable. The line eductor may be attached to the hoseline or may be part of the nozzle. There are two different types of line eductors : the in-line eductor and the self-educting nozzle. Both types of eductors use the venturi principle to draft foam concentrate into the water stream. As water at high pressure passes over a reduced opening, it creates a low-pressure area near the outlet side of the eductor. This low-pressure area creates a suction effect. The eductor pickup tube is connected to the eductor at this low-pressure point. The pickup tube submerged in the foam concentrate draws concentrate into the water stream, creating a foam water solution. 6, record 7, English, - in%2Dline%20foam%20concentrate%20inducer

Parent material, in soil science, means the underlying geological material(generally bedrock or a superficial or drift deposit) in which soil horizons form. Soils typically get a great deal of structure and minerals from their parent material. Parent materials are made up of consolidated or unconsolidated mineral material that has undergone some degree of physical or chemical weathering.... Parent material is classified by its last means of transport. So material that was transported to a location by glacier, then deposited elsewhere by streams, that material is classified as stream transported parent material, or fluvial parent material. Glacial till refers to material dragged with a moving ice sheet. Because it is not transported with liquid water, the material is not sorted by size. 3, record 12, English, - parent%20material

The rock from which soil is formed is called parent material. The main types are: eolian, glacial till, glacial outwash, alluvium, lacustrine parent material and residual parent material, or bedrock. 5, record 12, French, - mat%C3%A9riau%20parental

This latter is maintained by feeding the shot on to the blades of an impeller. The shot are then projected centrifugally at high speed on to the castings. This method is more economical and admits of better control of the abrasive than is possible using air jets. The moving belt must, of course, be well covered with parts to be cleaned, and the impeller blades should preferably be of some hard metal such as high-silicon iron. 3, record 14, English, - shot%20blasting%20machine

A special form of liquid chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), has become especially important for the separation of complex mixtures of nonvolatile materials. Essentially, it involves the use of very small particle size in column packing, with high pressure to increase the rate of flow and shorten the separation time to a few minutes. 7, record 19, English, - high%2Dperformance%20liquid%20chromatography

One of the most significant advances in chromatography in recent years has been the introduction of high performance liquid chromatography. Originally intended for the separation of small organic molecules that were soluble in non-aqueous solvents, the technique rapidly developed into a form suitable for the separation of larger, biological compounds soluble in aqueous solvents. In recent years, following the development of macroporous supports, the technique has become applicable to molecules as large as proteins and nucleic acids. 8, record 19, English, - high%2Dperformance%20liquid%20chromatography

An abrasive jet uses water that is pressurized up to 40, 000 pounds per square inch(psi) and then forced through a small sapphire orifice at 2500 feet per second, or about two and a half times the speed of sound. Garnet abrasive is then pulled into this high-speed stream of water and mixed with the water in a long ceramic mixing tube. A stream of abrasive laden water moving at 1000 feet per second exits the ceramic tube. This jet of water and abrasive is then directed at the material to be machined. The jet drags the abrasive through the material in a curved path and the resulting centrifugal forces on the particles press them against the work piece. The cutting action is a grinding process where the forces and motions are provided by water, rather than a grinding wheel. 1, record 21, English, - abrasive%20jet

1, record 22, English, - line%20eductor

1, record 28, French, - miroir%20en%20boucle%20non%20lin%C3%A9aire

[An] optical demultiplexer takes a stream of data moving at 40 gigabits per second and breaks it into separate lower-speed transmissions. A device called a nonlinear optical loop mirror receives incoming light pulses(each pulse represents one bit of data) and splits it in two. The signals move through the loop of optical fiber in opposite directions. A train of control pulses [and the] clockwise pulses interact with one another because of certain nonlinear physical properties in the fiber. This interplay of light pulses changes the phase of some of the clockwise pulses. After the control pulse leaves the loop, the two pulse streams moving in opposite directions merge back at the signal splitter, emitting 10-gigabit-per-second pulses from one fiber and 30-gigabit-per-second pulses from the other. 2, record 29, English, - light%20pulse

A typical injection system... consists of a stainless steel ring with six different parts, one to the column. A movable Teflon cone within the ring has three open segments, each of which connects a pair of external parts. Two of the parts are connected by an external sample loop of known or fixed volume. In one configuration, the cone permits direct flow of effluent into the column, and the loop can be filled with the sample. The cone can be rotated 30° to make the sample loop part of the moving stream, which sweeps the sample into the column. Samples of few microliters can be injected at pressures up to 6000 psi. 1, record 31, English, - sample%20injection%20system

"wheelaborator" : A machine used for cleaning castings. The latter are tumbled about in a cabinet on a horizontal belt and at the same time are subjected to bombardment by a stream of metal shot. 3, record 32, English, - wheelabrating
