MOVING TARGET INDICATOR RADAR [3 records]

Record 1 2007-03-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Surveillance, Detection and Reconnaissance (Military)
CONT

MDV determines whether the majority of military traffic, which often moves very slowly, will be visible. To capture the majority of this traffic, a radar must have the ability to detect the lowest possible radial velocity. As a target's radial velocity approaches zero, the target will fall into the clutter or "blind zone. "The clutter spread is a function of a radar's antenna real bandwidth. When a target is in clutter, traditional MTI [moving target indicator] radars can either detect the target or locate it, but not both.

DEF

a moving target indicator(MTI) in which a radar reference frequency oscillator is used in the receiver for phase comparison with the return signals for determining the radial component of the velocity of an object.

Record 3 1981-11-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aeroindustry
CONT

The radar is a Doppler MTI [moving target indicator] system with what is described as a "pretty low velocity gate" to enable slow-moving vehicles to be detected.

Key term(s)
  • velocity threshold

French

Domaine(s)
  • Constructions aéronautiques
CONT

Le radar Doppler à éliminateur d'échos fixes aurait un "seuil de détection de vitesse très bas", de façon à pouvoir détecter des véhicules se déplaçant très lentement.
