The Doppler effect on sound waves is experienced in everyday life. When an ambulance passes us, the siren appears to change its note. As it approaches, the pitch is high. As it passes us, the pitch falls. The effect occurs with any type of waves, including light. In the case of sound the effect was described by Christian Andreas Doppler (1803-1853), while for the light it was observed by Armand Fizeau (1819-1896). That’s why sometimes the effect is called the Doppler-Fizeau effect. 5, record 10, English, - Doppler%20effect

Effet Doppler.

The wedge-like intrusion of a large mass of salt water flowing in from the sea under the freshwater in a tidal waterway. [Definition standardized by ISO.] 5, record 11, English, - salt%2Dwater%20wedge
Record number: 11, Textual support number: 1 CONT
One of the most notable characteristics of an estuary is the differing gradients of salinity that are present... These gradients may appear both horizontally and vertically within the water column. Under flood tide conditions the layer of surface water coming into the estuary is moving at a faster rate than the bottom layer. As the tidal waters come in contact with the fresh water moving out of the river, the more dense salt water sinks to the bottom causing the fresh water to rise. The result of this tidal movement is a mixing of the fresh and salt water from the top to the bottom referred to as tidal over-mixing, and a salt water "wedge" being formed. The wedge is narrowest at the head of the river and it broadens out towards the mouth of the river. 6, record 11, English, - salt%2Dwater%20wedge

Cross crew qualification (CCQ) is the process of qualifying for a new aircraft type through training which covers only the differences between the new type and the aircraft type the pilot is currently qualified to fly. It applies to aircraft types which share Flight Operational Commonality and replaces the Full Type Rating course. 2, record 12, English, - cross%20crew%20qualification
Record number: 12, Textual support number: 1 OBS
For example, an A320 pilot moving to the A330 or A340 only needs to do the appropriate differences training to be qualified on the A330 or A340. The same applies to a pilot moving from the A330/A340 to the A320 Family, or between the A330 and A340. CCQ reduces training time and cost by 65% to 95%, compared to a Full Type Rating course. Transitioning pilots spend less time away from line flying and, as a result, can increase their productivity in the airline. CCQ is now well established. It is approved by authorities worldwide, including the JAA in Europe and the FAA in the United States, and is used by twenty-six Airbus family operators around the world. The trend towards MFF is on the increase, with pilots from 11 airlines practising it. 2, record 12, English, - cross%20crew%20qualification

Doppler lidar is used to measure the velocity of a target. When the light transmitted from the lidar hits a target moving towards or away from the lidar, the wavelength of the light reflected/scattered off the target will be changed slightly. This is known as a Doppler shift-hence Doppler Lidar. If the target is moving away from the lidar, the return light will have a longer wavelength(sometimes referred to as a red shift), if moving towards the lidar the return light will be at a shorter wavelength(blue shifted). The target can be either a hard target or an atmospheric target-the atmosphere contains many microscopic dust and aerosol particles which are carried by the wind. 3, record 19, English, - Doppler%20lidar

When a warm or cold front stops moving, it becomes a stationary front. Once this boundary resumes its forward motion, it once again becomes a warm front or cold front. A stationary front is represented [on a weather map] by alternating blue and red lines with blue triangles pointing towards the warmer air and red semicircles pointing towards the colder air. 3, record 23, English, - stationary%20front

Describe the landing performance and limitations of the training helicopter type. Describe how to land on sloping ground as follows : establish a steady hover; lower collective gently until the upslope skid contacts the ground; continue lowering the collective, at the same time moving the cyclic gently towards the slope maintaining a level attitude; when both skids are in full contact with the ground, smoothly lower the collective until it is fully down. Prevent yaw throughout. Carry out a seating check by making small gentle movements of the collective and pedals. when certain the helicopter will not slide centre the cyclic and reduce RPM, if required. 1, record 24, English, - establish%20a%20steady%20hover
