The general theory of structures is based on a static calculation, which means to say that both the structure and the loads acting on it are at rest, or may simulate this condition because they act slowly. But the structure and load acting on it cannot always be deemed to be at rest, because the dynamic effect of forces may cause accelerations in it, which lead to failure. Wind and earthquakes are forces with a significant dynamic effect on bridges but it must also be borne in mind that traffic loads are moving and, in fact, the dynamic effect of these loads are taken into account via impact factors... 2, record 1, English, - traffic%20load

MDV determines whether the majority of military traffic, which often moves very slowly, will be visible. To capture the majority of this traffic, a radar must have the ability to detect the lowest possible radial velocity. As a target's radial velocity approaches zero, the target will fall into the clutter or "blind zone. "The clutter spread is a function of a radar's antenna real bandwidth. When a target is in clutter, traditional MTI [moving target indicator] radars can either detect the target or locate it, but not both. 1, record 23, English, - minimum%20detectable%20velocity

Within any transportation infrastructure there are many levels of operational control differentiated by the complexity of their systems. The highest levels are those where ITS [intelligent transportation systems] technologies are deployed in order to streamline system efficiency. The higher the level of complexity, the higher the rate of integration. For example, traffic signs and markings represent a basic level of operational control. Moving up from this level to the next might involve the use of independently controlled traffic signals. The next progessive step could be centrally coordinated preprogrammed systems of traffic controllers. 1, record 32, English, - centrally%20coordinated%20preprogrammed%20system%20of%20traffic%20controllers

An asphalt distributor will spread a coating of asphalt over the surface, which is followed by a chipspreader placing the layer of rock. This rock is then rolled into place with a roller. This process should take about 20 minutes at any one location. No traffic is allowed on the liquid asphalt, and traffic on the unrolled rock will be limited to critical traffic only. After rolling, the road will be reopened to light, slow moving traffic. There are small surface rocks that will roll off into the gutter. This is also normal, and city crews will sweep up the excess aggregate within 24 to 48 hours. Drivers are asked to keep speeds slow to avoid damage to the fresh surface and to avoid throwing loose rocks into windshields. 2, record 36, English, - excess%20aggregate

2, record 36, French, - granulats%20en%20exc%C3%A8s

NDHQ 97 is the largest accommodation project ever undertaken by the Department of National Defence or the government. It's more than just moving people from building to building. It's refitting buildings and general office space, using a new design concept called the universal footprint. It's adapting accommodation to re-engineered organizations. It's also purchasing and installing furniture best suited to a modern, dynamic organization. The headquarters will have a new look. In the four buildings... corridors will run along the windows. Offices will be clustered at the centre of each floor. Major traffic will flow outside work areas, not through them. People working in teams will have work areas designed for teams. Offices will have more natural light, better air conditioning and better ventilation. Some screens will have glazed windows to allow natural light to spill through. Each workstation will include large, well-lit work surfaces for computers and overall, will have more usable workspace. Plenty of storage space will be located above and below work surfaces. But employees will be encouraged to make the most of their space by storing information on diskette, rather than in filing cabinets. The look will be cleaner and less cluttered. And whether people are tall or short, they’ll be able to adjust their desks, chairs and computers to the height that's right for them. 3, record 38, English, - universal%20footprint

4, record 38, French, - plan%20universel
