An axial xenon oscillation model is developed for pressurized water reactor analysis. The model employs an equation system for axial difference parameters that is derived from xenon and iodine balance equations coupled with two-group, one-dimensional neutron diffusion equations. 1, record 2, French, - oscillation%20axiale%20de%20x%C3%A9non

Core Power Distribution. In order to ensure predictable temperatures and uniform depletion of the fuel installed in a reactor, numerous measures are taken to provide an even distribution of flux throughout the power producing section of the reactor. This shaping, or flattening, of the neutron flux is normally achieved through the use of reflectors that affect the flux profile across the core, or by the installation of poisons to suppress the neutron flux where desired. 2, record 3, English, - power%20distribution

3, record 4, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20RIC

Ray effects. An artefact related to the method of discrete ordinates, known as the “ray effect, ” is illustrated … For a two-dimensional case, which is easier to represent, we have considered the problem of a point source in a purely absorbent medium. The arrows represent the directions of the discrete ordinates, and the squares represent the meshing of the spatial discretisation. Because neutrons are obliged to travel along the discrete directions, we note that only the shaded mesh elements will “see” a certain neutron flux, since the others cannot receive any neutrons. The resulting lines are clearly visible on the diagram. In practical cases, the artefact is never so clear, since the sources are spread out and there is scattering, but it can still be identified. The only way to improve this situation is to refine the angular meshing. 1, record 41, English, - ray%20effect

2, record 45, French, - chambre%20de%20d%C3%A9tection

Each primary source assembly contains one primary source rod and a number of burnable absorber rods. Each secondary source assembly contains a symmetrical grouping of secondary source rodlets... The primary source rod, containing a radioactive material, spontaneously emits neutrons during initial core loading, reactor startup, and initial operation of the first core. After the primary source rod decays beyond the desired neutron flux level, neutrons are then supplied by the secondary source rod. The secondary source rod contains a stable material, which is activated during reactor operation. The activation results in the subsequent release of neutrons. 1, record 53, English, - secondary%20source%20rod

Irradiation-induced swelling, also known as void swelling(VS), occurs in austenitic stainless steels and nickel-base alloys during neutron bombardment. Voids grow due to the migration and condensation of vacancies on the void nuclei(which can be gas bubbles) leading to an increase In material volume. This phenomenon is dependent on temperature, neutron flux, and neutron fluence. Swelling is typically a concern for fast reactors at temperatures above 350°C(662°F). 1, record 54, English, - irradiation%2Dinduced%20swelling

A self-powered neutron detector has a neutron-sensitive emitter, a collector enclosing this emitter and insulation between these two components. During normal, long-term operation, the exposure of the fuel to neutrons varies from place to place in the reactor. The fuelling engineer selects fuel replacement times and places to even out the availability of neutrons across the core. This is known as neutron flux flattening. The oldest fuel, which absorbs many neutrons uselessly, is left longer in areas of the core where the neutron flux tends to be high. Fresh fuel, which gives a higher rate of fission per neutron, is inserted into regions where the neutron flux is lower. 1, record 74, English, - neutron%20flux%20flattening

Combustible appauvri et aplanissement du flux neutronique. [...] 1, record 74, French, - aplanissement%20du%20flux%20neutronique
