CONT

A series of measurements by neutron detection without and with a photon to neutron converter target were carried out … In this case no converter target is used; the neutron component is mainly produced by photonuclear interaction in the tungsten target itself. In order to enhance Mini Linatron neutron production an appropriate beryllium converter target was placed on the electron beam axis in front of the Mini Linatron and close to the tungsten-braking target. The beryllium target is a cylinder(12 cm high and 10 cm in diameter).

CONT

Subject field(s)

  • Nuclear Fission Reactors
CONT

The possible mechanisms for the fuel rod growth such as stress-free rod growth due to fast neutron irradiation, the rod growth due to clad creep-down by the pressure difference between the rod internal gas pressure and the reactor coolant system pressure, and the rod growth due to pellet-clad mechanical interaction, have been evaluated.

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Instruments
  • Atomic Physics
  • Nuclear Fission Reactors
CONT

Fission chambers... [These] counters [are] designed for the detection of neutrons by their interaction with a solid fissile material... Neutrons cause fission of the fissile material and the high energy ionising products of that reaction result, usually, in the output of pulses from the chamber. These chambers are known as pulse fission chambers since the rate of pulse output is proportional to the rate of fission reactions and, therefore, to the neutron flux.

Domaine(s)
  • Instruments scientifiques
  • Physique atomique
  • Réacteurs nucléaires de fission
CONT

Elles peuvent supporter jusqu'à 104 Gy/h.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
  • Radiation Protection
CONT

A neutron detector having an enhanced response to neutrons of a preselected energy, said detector comprising : a body of neutron-responsive material operative to produce a detectable signal in response to the interaction of a neutron therewith; a sensitive material associated with at least a portion of said body of neutron-responsive material, said sensitive material having a resonance at said preselected energy which increases its neutron interaction cross section thereat as compared to its neutron interaction cross section at non-resonant energies.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
  • Radioprotection
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

A neutron interaction in which the incident neutron disappears as a free particle even when one or more neutrons are subsequently emitted accompanied by other particles, e. g. in fission.

OBS

Scattering is not considered to be part of neutron absorption.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
DEF
