The neutron moisture meter consists of two main components, a probe and a gauge. The probe contains a source of fast neutrons, and the gauge monitors the flux of slow neutrons scattered by the soil. In using the neutron meter, a cased hole in the ground is necessary for lowering the probe to obtain readings. 2, record 2, English, - neutron%20probe

5, record 2, French, - sonde%20%C3%A0%20neutrons
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
5, record 2, French, - sonde%20%C3%A0%20neutrons
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 3 CONT
2, record 2, French, - sonde%20%C3%A0%20neutrons
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS

To obtain a more exact representation of the neutron flux distribution within the core, additional neutron flux measurements are conducted within the core... Each incore probe is fixed to the end of a flexible cable referred to as a teleflex cable for moving it inside a measuring channel of the instrumentation of the nuclear reactor. Each measuring channel opens at one end into an instrumentation area in the bottom part of the reactor building. The fission probes are moved inside the measuring channels from the instrumentation area. Each measuring channel includes a fuel assembly instrumentation tube inside the core of the nuclear reactor and a glove finger inside the instrumentation tube in which the fission probe moves. The neutron flux is measured in a set of fuel assemblies distributed throughout the section of the core. 1, record 4, English, - instrumentation%20tube

Another way to express the moisture content of a soil is the volumetric water content... The use of volumetric water content rather than wetness is often more convenient because it is more directly adaptable to the computation of fluxes and water quantities added or subtracted to a soil. Also, volumetric water content represents the depth ratio of soil water, i. e., the depth of water per depth of soil. In Narrabri the volumetric water content was tested by two different methods, these being the Neutron Probe and by Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR). 3, record 5, English, - volumic%20water%20content
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Neutronometry : counting of the neutrons thermalized by inelastic shocks on the nuclei of hydrogen atoms using a ’neutron probe’. The volumic water content is determined on the whole soil profile. The equipment is expensive, calibration is delicate, and its use is subject to constraints(radioprotection). However, it can provide rapid and sequential measures at the same place without disturbing the soil. 1, record 5, English, - volumic%20water%20content
