… we describe a new spectral nodal method for solving discrete ordinates(SN) neutron transport problems with anisotropic scattering for arbitrary order N of angular quadrature. The key to our new spectral nodal method is a consistent derivation of nonstandard auxiliary equations that relate angular neutron fluxes only in the upwind directions. These nonstandard equations are angularly coupled extensions of very basic auxiliary equations proposed by Edward W. Larsen in his extended diamond scheme of solving S2 problems in the presence of scattering and free from spatial truncation error. 1, record 1, English, - diamond%20scheme

After the depleted fuel assemblies are removed from the reactor, they are placed in a canister … The canister alone, however, is not sufficient to provide adequate gamma or neutron radiation shielding. Therefore, apparatus that provide additional radiation shielding are required during transport, preparation and subsequent dry storage … The additional shielding is achieved by placing the canisters within large cylindrical containers called casks. Casks are typically designed to shield the environment from the dangerous radiation in two ways. First, shielding of gamma radiation requires large amounts of mass. Gamma rays are best absorbed by materials with a high atomic number and a high density, such as concrete, lead, and steel. The greater the density and thickness of the blocking material, the better the absorption/shielding of the gamma radiation. 1, record 8, English, - blocking%20material

Computational capability has been developed to calculate sensitivity coefficients of generalized responses with respect to cross-section data in the SCALE code system. The focus of this paper is the implementation of generalized perturbation theory(GPT) for one-dimensional and two-dimensional deterministic neutron transport calculations. GPT is briefly summarized for computing sensitivity coefficients for reaction rate ratio responses within the existing framework of the TSUNAMI sensitivity and uncertainty(S/U) analysis code package in SCALE. GPT provides the capability to analyze generalized responses related to reactor analysis, such as homogenized cross-sections, relative powers, and conversion ratios, as well as measured experimental parameters. 1, record 11, English, - generalized%20perturbation%20theory

The SCALE code system includes a sensitivity and uncertainty (S/U) analysis code package called TSUNAMI. TSUNAMI originally focused on keff responses for criticality safety analysis and included the capability to compute sensitivity coefficients using forward and adjoint solutions from three-dimensional Monte Carlo or one-dimensional (1D) discrete ordinates eigenvalue calculations. 1, record 11, English, - generalized%20perturbation%20theory

1, record 11, French, - th%C3%A9orie%20g%C3%A9n%C3%A9ralis%C3%A9e%20des%20perturbations

Transport correction. Much of the error due to the diffusion approximation comes from the assumption of isotopic scattering.(This assumption is necessary to reach the simple form of the integral transport [and] was also made to establish Fick's law when we assume that when a neutron leaving dV had probability d2 omega/4[ pi] of hitting dS where d2 omega was the solid angle under which dS is seen from the point of emission). The transport correction established from the differential form of the transport operator can compensate for most of this error. Because it is simple to introduce, it is always used in practice. It consists of replacing the total cross-section [sigma] with the so-called “transport” cross-section in the expression for the diffusion of the coefficient. 1, record 12, English, - %20transport%20correction

The purification system has two tasks. First, it must remove insoluble and soluble corrosion products and other impurities from the moderator water. Secondly it must remove unwanted neutron absorbing chemicals (called poisons), used for reactor regulation. 1, record 15, English, - purification%20system

If this circulating crud is not removed from the HTS [heat transport system], subsequent neutron activation and re-deposition will create radiological problems in the HTS(increased man-rem). An increased purification flow will remove much or all of these products. But, the removal of these materials in the purification circuit will result in high radiation fields around the filters, strainers and IX columns. 1, record 15, English, - purification%20system

1, record 15, French, - circuit%20d%27%C3%A9puration

An approximate method for solving the transport equation, related to the spherical harmonics method and based on two expansions of the angular dependence of the differential particle flux density, one in the forward direction and one in the backward direction. This method is used mainly when there is a marked change of neutron characteristics across a boundary. 2, record 16, English, - double%20spherical%20harmonics%20approximation%20method

3, record 16, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20des%20doubles%20harmoniques%20sph%C3%A9riques

Trip Logic.... With general coincidence logic the final shutdown action is initiated by the actuation of any trip sensor in one instrumentation channel combined with the actuation of any trip sensors in the other instrumentation channels(e. g., in a 3-channel system, high heat transport pressure in one channel, high neutron flux in another channel). 1, record 17, English, - general%20coincidence%20logic
