Since the beginning of our French colony, the habitants of New France created a rowdy tradition of getting together just before Lent to eat, drink and be merry. At this time, this intense period of revelry was already designated as the Carnival-a word of Italian origin meaning Mardi Gras. The custom of celebrating from the end of January until mid-February has long been popular. The first large winter Carnival in Québec City, the world's snow capital, took place in 1894. Often faced with winter's hardships, the city's population reinvented this popular tradition with a winter celebration that warmed up the hearts of all of it revellers. Interrupted by two wars, then the economic crisis of 1929, the Carnival was held sporadically until the second half of the century. In 1954, in the context of the economic development of the Old Capital, a group of business people relaunched the festivities. That year, Bonhomme was born and elected the event's representative. The first official edition of the Québec Winter Carnival took place in 1955. The Carnival snowballed into an undeniable manifestation for the entire Québec City population, and was an important vehicle for tourism and economical activity in the city. 1, record 5, English, - Qu%C3%A9bec%20Winter%20Carnival

1, record 5, French, - Carnaval%20de%20Qu%C3%A9bec

In August, 2007, the Settlement Workers in Schools(SWIS) program sponsored a pilot project to prepare newly arrived youth for entry to eight(8) high schools in Ontario. Called Newcomer Orientation Week or NOW, this intensive orientation initiative was piloted in six(6) high schools in Toronto, one(1) in Peel Region and one(1) in Hamilton. The NOW program was strategically positioned to occur just prior to the beginning of the school year. In NOW, former newcomer students are trained to lead the activities with the newly arrived students. The overall concept of NOW is that newcomer youth begin to feel more comfortable in the school setting and, if they run into difficulties, know how to get support-from PLs, teachers and/or SWIS workers. The overall goal of NOW is : To give newcomer youth a head start in their new school by familiarizing them with the school building and routines, linking them to students already attending the school, and orienting them to sources of help as well as the “culture” of the Ontario educational system. 1, record 11, English, - Newcomer%20Orientation%20Week

World Evangelical Alliance is a global ministry working with local churches around the world to join in common concern to live and proclaim the Good News of Jesus in their communities. WEA is a network of churches in 127 nations that have each formed an evangelical alliance and over 100 international organizations joining together to give a worldwide identity, voice and platform to more than 420 million evangelical Christians. Seeking holiness, justice and renewal at every level of society-individual, family, community and culture, God is glorified and the nations of the earth are forever transformed. Christians from ten countries met in London in 1846 for the purpose of launching, in their own words, "a new thing in church history, a definite organization for the expression of unity amongst Christian individuals belonging to different churches. "This was the beginning of a vision that was fulfilled in 1951 when believers from 21 countries officially formed the World Evangelical Fellowship. 1, record 30, English, - World%20Evangelical%20Alliance

Vaisakhi is therefore determined by the solar calendar. Baisakhi usually falls on April 13, and on April 14 once every thirty-six years. Black Hand, symbol and name for a criminal and terroristic secret society, and especially associated with the Mafia and the Camorra. The Black Hand flourished in Sicily in the late 19th century, and in the United States it was especially active in New York City at the beginning of the 20th century. It is estimated that at one time 90% of New York City's Italian population was blackmailed by letters threatening death and marked with a black hand. Famous incidents associated with the Black Hand include the murder(1890) in New Orleans of chief of police Daniel Hennessy and the shooting(1909), in Palermo, Italy, of Lt. Since 1973 industrialised countries have been undergoing a major economic crisis. In the car manufacturing industry, world production plummeted from 39 million vehicles in 1973 to less than 35 million in 1974. Many firms have started to make losses. In this general climate, one manufacturer stood out with better results-Toyota. The other firms asked themselves why this was, and discovered that this Japanese car maker had gone over to a different method of production to that which was prevalent at the time. Instead of applying the principles developed by Ford, like its competitors, Toyota has developed a particular way of organising its production which gave both higher efficiency and better profitability. Just as the innovations in the methods of production inaugurated by Ford in Detroit at the beginning of the century are known as Fordism, so the new methods of working are called Toyotism. 1, record 41, English, - toyotism

2, record 41, French, - toyotisme

Multi Material Moulding. Two raw material injection moulding: In this process, two materials are injected consecutively into two different mould cavities through separate nozzles to produce a moulded part. First one component is injected, then this part is transferred to another cavity by turning or pushing out part of the mould or by transferring the moulding into another mould, then the second component is injected. During composite injection moulding (Combiform), the second cavity is vacated by actuating a movable core. Since the beginning of the present object classification system in 1966, transactions between departments and programs for goods and services have been occurring throughout the government and have been recorded by standard and economic/source objects. The levee has a long tradition in the Canadian Forces as one of the activities associated with New Year's Day. Officers of the various units and headquarters receive and greet in their messes visiting officers and other guests in the convivial spirit of the first day of the new year. Hospitality is dispensed in a variety of forms, from the special flaming punch of the Royal Canadian Hussars of Montreal, a concoction bequeathed to the regiment by the old 1st Motor Machine Gun Brigade and which takes a month to prepare, to the famed Athole Brose, that brew of oatmeal, honey and whisky, of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, Vancouver. In line with this tradition, the chief of the defence staff, beginning on 1 January 1975 hosts a levee each New Year's Day in the new National Defence Headquarters at 101 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa. 2, record 59, English, - New%20Year%27s%20levee

1, record 61, French, - t%C3%A9l%C3%A9billetterie%20Air%20Canada
