The New Brunswick Police Association(NBPA) is a full-service province wide-law enforcement association made up of the members of community police departments in New Brunswick. Their mission is to work in partnership with the communities they represent to strive to create a safe environment in which to live, work and visit. The NBPA was formed to promote and maintain the social and economic welfare of the Municipal Police Officers in civic, municipal and provincial public service within the province of New Brunswick.

This kit was developed in 1999 as a guide for small business owners to lower their risk of becoming a victim of anything from a rubber cheque to an armed hold-up, and is intended to be used by law enforcement agencies in their public education efforts. The kit was the result of a collaborative effort between the New Brunswick Association of Chiefs of Police, the New Brunswick Department of Public Safety, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, the New Brunswick Association of Convenience Store Owners, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
