What is now known as the Canada Southern Railway Company was originally incorporated on the twenty-eighth of February, 1868, by the legislature of the province of Ontario, Canada, to build and operate a railroad in that province between the Detroit and Niagara rivers, and was given power to borrow money in the province or elsewhere and issue negotiable coupon bonds therefor, secured by a mortgage on its property, "for completing, maintaining, and working the railway". DRDC Valcarter is a major Canadian military research station in Quebec, one of seven centres making up Defence Research and Development Canada(DRDC). Originally formed at the end of World War II in 1945 as the Canadian Armament Research and Development Establishment(CARDE), the intent was to keep the research teams built up during the war in Canada, as opposed to moving to the United States. Starting in 1951 CARDE implemented a major missile development program, eventually delivering two combat systems, the Velvet Glove air-to-air missile and the Heller anti-tank rocket. Neither was accepted for production, but the basic research was used with local defence contractors to build up familiarity with the new technologies.

Budget 2006 provided $37 million over two years for the RCMP to expand the Depot to accommodate these new officers and build the capacity to train more officers in the future. Today, many options using concrete are available; new concepts are emerging and the art is constantly improving.(...) The circular bin is usually preferred since it is the cheapest shape to build, requiring the least amount of reinforcing steel and wall thickness to handle the stresses. It is also easier to build with moving or jump framework, surface finishing is easier, there are no corners for grain hangups, and hopper bottoms are conical with no valley angles. Square concrete bins nested together with common walls, may be advantageous where space is at a premium.
