What is uranium enrichment? Enrichment is a process that increases the capacity of uranium to fuel a nuclear chain reaction, either for use in nuclear power plants or for nuclear weapons. Uranium primarily occurs naturally as two isotopes : 99. 3% is uranium-238 and 0. 7% is uranium-235. Their atoms are identical except for the number of neutrons in the nucleus : uranium-238 has three more and this makes it less able to fission. Uranium enrichment is used to increase the percentage of the fissile U-235. 2, record 1, English, - uranium%20enrichment

1, record 1, Spanish, - enriquecimiento%20de%20uranio

[A] thermonuclear bomb, also called hydrogen bomb, or H-bomb, [is a] weapon whose enormous explosive power results from an uncontrolled self-sustaining chain reaction in which isotopes of hydrogen combine under extremely high temperatures to form helium in a process known as nuclear fusion. The high temperatures that are required for the reaction are produced by the detonation of an atomic bomb. A thermonuclear bomb differs fundamentally from an atomic bomb in that it utilizes the energy released when two light atomic nuclei combine, or fuse, to form a heavier nucleus. 4, record 3, English, - hydrogen%20bomb

Exchange(intermediate, fast, slow, chemical and conformational) : Exchange is a kinetic process between two(or more) states that is characterized by a rate constant. In NMR [nuclear magnetic resonance] spectroscopy, exchange is classified into fast, intermediate and slow depending on the size of the rate constant with respect to chemical shift(which is measured in the same units(Hz) as the rate constant). In the fast exchange regime, the rate is much larger than the difference in chemical shift between the two states and the NMR signal will be at the weighted average position of the two states. In slow exchange, signals for both states are observable and the intensities are proportional to the populations of the two states. In intermediate exchange, the transition between the signals seen for slow and fast exchange takes place, resulting in very broad and often non-observable signals. 1, record 22, English, - slow%20exchange

2, record 27, French, - conversion%20interne

Significant temperature gradients are present across the fuel particles when a nuclear reactor is producing power. If local temperatures are sufficiently high, nuclear fuel kernels can migrate up the thermal gradient. Initially, the [Port Hope] plant processed high-grade uranium ores to recover radium. A by-product of the refining process was uranium oxide, and, with increasing interest in nuclear energy, the emphasis switched to uranium production. By 1942, uranium extraction from ores had become the primary process and radium refining ceased in 1953. The radium circuit was dismantled in 1955, and replaced by a uranium refining circuit, which processed uranium concentrates(yellowcake) rather than uranium ores.... a production facility was added to convert refined uranium oxide to uranium hexafluoride for export. The nuclear process that powers the sun. It involves the fusion of nuclei in 3 kinds of collisions. The cycle starts for any one proton when it collides with another. This collision produces a deuterium nucleus, a neutrino that shoots off into space and a position that eventually annihilates a stray electron. Next, the deuterium nucleus is hit by another proton, producing a nucleus of helium-3 and a burst of gamma rays. The helium-3 hits another helium-3, producing a nucleus of inert helium and two protons. These 2 protons now start the proton-proton cycle over again. 4, record 73, English, - proton%2Dproton%20chain

Neutron radiation is produced by the fission process in nuclear reactors. It is the form of radiation which can cause other materials to become radioactive. This property is used to create radioisotopes for medicine and industry. Water and concrete are used as a shield against neutron radiation from the reactor core. 2, record 75, English, - neutron%20radiation

3, record 75, French, - neutrons
