In terms of fuel efficiency, the newer forms of nuclear reactor are some 10 times more economic than current counterparts-for each gigawatt of power produced, they require 30 tonnes of fuel per year, compared with 300 tonnes of the same fuel required by Magnox power stations. Safety is primarily concerned with maintaining control over sources, whereas(radiation) protection is primarily concerned with controlling exposure to radiation and its effects. Clearly the two are closely connected : radiation protection(or radiological protection) is very much simpler if the source in question is under control, so safety necessarily contributes towards protection. Sources come in many different types, and hence safety may be termed nuclear safety, radiation safety, radioactive waste safety or transport safety... 1, record 46, English, - radiation%20safety

The Petrogen® Liquid Fuel Cutting System is a solid, proven technology that brings you unequally safety, performance, and cost savings. Petrogen makes cuts that are impossible with any other torch, incredibly fast and clean with less airborne contaminants. Petrogen cuts up to 14 inches of steel. The powerful flame easily cuts through layers and across air gaps, through rust, paint, even concrete-backed steel without popping. Petrogen fuel is regular liquid gasoline, kept liquid from the tank to the tip. The Petrogen System is much safer than compressed gas systems such as acetylene or propane. Fuel line backflash is impossible! Many built-in safety features provide the safest cutting torch made. [Text followed by an illustration.] 2, record 70, English, - Petrogen%C2%AE%20torch

It should be emphasized that the modified Kusnetz method is only one of the several methods which may be used by uranium mining licensees in fulfilling the [Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission(CNSC) ] requirement of an acceptable method of measurement for radon daughter concentrations.... The basic Kusnetz technique employed a count rate meter to measure the alpha emission rate from the sample, and had a practical detection limit of about 0. 3 WL [working level]. The modified technique requires the use of a scaler in place of the count rate meter, and this results in a reduction of the practical detection limit to about 0. 03 WL [working level]. 2, record 74, English, - counting%20ratemeter

Dry Storage of Spent Nuclear Fuel. Spent nuclear fuel is a highly radioactive material that is a byproduct of the fission of uranium in commercial nuclear power plants. Currently, spent nuclear fuel is stored in pools of water at most nuclear power plants. By designing equipment for spent nuclear fuel dry storage, the need for maintaining high cost pools can be eliminated. Designing efficient fuel dry storage equipment using Fluent's suite of CFD software enables reduction of costs while maintaining safety. Decommissioning the spent fuel storage pools can, over time, save millions of dollars in overhead costs. 1, record 86, English, - fuel%20dry%20storage
