The principles of soil spectroscopy are based in nuclear physics. Elements in the soil react in unique ways to the energy from the electromagnetic spectrum, reflecting some wavelengths and absorbing others. The reflected wavelengths give scientists clues to which minerals and elements are present and in what quantities. That information can then be related to certain soil properties, like whether it's suitable for certain crops, or whether it's effectively sequestering carbon. 2, record 1, English, - soil%20spectroscopy

Stationary nuclear Overhauser effect. NMR [nuclear magnetic resonance] spectroscopy based on the nuclear Overhauser effect(NOE) between dipolar coupled nuclei is one of the most commonly used techniques to determine the spatial structure of proteins. Generally speaking the NOE describes the transfer of spin polarization from one spin population to another. The magnitude of the NOE highly depends on the distance between the dipolar coupled spins such that it can be used to determine interatomar distances within molecules. 1, record 4, English, - %20stationary%20nuclear%20Overhauser%20effect

Exchange(intermediate, fast, slow, chemical and conformational) : Exchange is a kinetic process between two(or more) states that is characterized by a rate constant. In NMR [nuclear magnetic resonance] spectroscopy, exchange is classified into fast, intermediate and slow depending on the size of the rate constant with respect to chemical shift(which is measured in the same units(Hz) as the rate constant). In the fast exchange regime, the rate is much larger than the difference in chemical shift between the two states and the NMR signal will be at the weighted average position of the two states. In slow exchange, signals for both states are observable and the intensities are proportional to the populations of the two states. In intermediate exchange, the transition between the signals seen for slow and fast exchange takes place, resulting in very broad and often non-observable signals. 1, record 7, English, - fast%20exchange

The electric field is perpendicular to the cross-sectional area of the crystal. The crystal thickness is selected on the basis of the gamma-ray energy region relevant to the application of interest, with the small thicknesses optimum for low-energy measurements(for example in the L-x-ray region for special nuclear material). Planar detectors usually achieve the best energy resolution, because of their low capacitance; they are preferred for detailed spectroscopy, such as the analysis of the complex low-energy gamma-ray and x-ray spectra of uranium and plutonium. 1, record 10, English, - planar%20detector

2, record 10, French, - d%C3%A9tecteur%20planaire

[Nuclear radiation detector. ] Pile-Up Rejection. If two pulses arrive within the so-called measurement time(peaking time) the output pulse will have a distorted amplitude. The pile-up rejector circuit is used to prevent the measurement of these distorted pulses. The pile-up rejector is implemented by adding a fast pulse-shaping amplifier with a very short shaping time constant in parallel with the slow spectroscopy amplifier. 1, record 12, English, - pile%2Dup%20rejector%20circuit

[Détecteur de rayonnements nucléaires.] Circuit anti-empilement […] 1, record 12, French, - circuit%20anti%2Dempilement

The diameter of the nucleus is small both in absolute and relative terms. The mean nuclear diameter is cca. 10[ superscript-13] cm, that is 0. 0000000000001 cm. This is so small that it can not be seen even by the most advanced electron microscope, and cannot be weighed even by the most sensitive balance. Its size and mass, however, can be accurately measured by the procedure called mass spectroscopy, with the instrument called mass spectrometer. 2, record 16, English, - nuclear%20diameter

This course is designed for chemistry students wishing to become familiar with the use of high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry for the determination of molecular structure and dynamics in solution. The NMR part of the course deals with analysis of second-order proton spectra, with extraction of coupling constants and chemical shifts from spectra. Then the topics of pulsed and Fourier transform NMR are introduced and applied to natural abundance 13C spectra. Problem solving with combined 1H and 13C NMR data is emphasized. Subsequently the use of spin lattice relaxation times for dynamics is discussed, followed by an introduction to 2 dimensional(2D) NMR. 1, record 18, English, - 2%20dimensional%20NMR
