Irradiation-Induced Stress Corrosion Cracking of Austenitic Stainless Steels. In recent years, failures of reactor internal components have been observed after the components have reached neutron fluence levels... The general pattern of the observed failures indicates that as nuclear plants age and fluence increases, various apparently nonsensitized austenitic stainless steels become susceptible to intergranular failure... Irradiation produces defects and defect clusters in grain matrices and alters the dislocation network, dislocation loop, and dislocation channel structures, leading to radiation-induced hardening. Irradiation also leads to changes in the stability of second-phase precipitates and the local chemistry near grain boundaries, precipitates, and defect clusters. 2, record 1, English, - irradiation%2Dassisted%20stress%20corrosion

... the NRC [US Nuclear Regulatory Commission] has elaborated on the regulation through a series of Branch Technical Positions.... the most detailed Branch Technical Position addresses methods to be used to qualify waste form as being "structurally stable". The same document presents requirements for high integrity containers, which are an acceptable substitute for waste form for achieving structural stability. 1, record 2, English, - structurally%20stable%20waste%20form

A situation in which neither side could logically see any gain in attacking the other. Stability in this context has three dimensions : first, that it is unlikely that the balance could be altered to the point that one side believed a deliberate attack would be profitable; second, that massive nuclear exchange would not develop as a result of hasty, ill-founded or desperate decisions during a crisis; and third, that the maintenance of mutual deterrence does not require a competitive resource-consuming arms race. 2, record 3, English, - stable%20mutual%20deterrence
