NUCLEAR TANK WATER [3 records]

Record 1 2009-06-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Nuclear Fission Reactors
CONT

NOAH is a continuous water process for the treatment of the 1500 tons of sodium. This process was used with success for the primary sodium of Rapsodie and more recently in Dounreay(UK) to treat more than 1000 tons of radioactive sodium.... During the dismantling phase, the operations consist mainly in treating the sodium and dismantling the reactor and the other nuclear facilities and equipments. After draining the sodium from the reactor tank to the NOAH treatment process, it is planned to fill the tank up with water and to cut the most irradiated internal structures under water.

CONT

Primary sodium is online treated with NOAH process producing concentrated sodium hydroxide liquor (10mol/L). This liquid effluents is then neutralized and released to the sea (PFR) or transformed into concrete blocks for final disposal (SPX).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génie chimique
  • Réacteurs nucléaires de fission
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Nuclear Plant Safety
  • Radiation Protection
  • Compartment - Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
CONT

A steel, light water filled shield tank surrounds the calandria. This tank, like the end shields, provides shutdown shielding from nuclear radiation. It also acts as a thermal shield absorbing heat from thermal radiation.

Domaine(s)
  • Sûreté des centrales nucléaires
  • Radioprotection
  • Tiroir - Commission canadienne de sûreté nucléaire
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Water Treatment (Water Supply)
  • Equipment and Tools (Water Supply)
  • Chemical Engineering
CONT

Mixed-bed exchangers are most frequently used either for finishing, following a primary deionization system, or when the raw water contains very few ions, as in the case of condensed water or nuclear tank water deionized in a closed circuit.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Traitement des eaux
  • Équipement et outillage (Alimentation en eau)
  • Génie chimique
CONT
