NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROLIFERATION [4 records]

Record 1 2021-01-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radiation Protection
  • Radioactive Contamination
CONT

The perception of environmental radioactivity has evolved over the past century, starting with an extended period of scientific exploration until the detonation of the first atomic bomb. … Some countries are decreasing their weapons arsenal, but this still requires a safe method to dispose of the radioactive materials, especially to stop nuclear proliferation.

Record 2 2009-10-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Nuclear Fission Reactors
OBS

Fast reactors can be operated in a "burner" mode... Such reactors can "store" temporarily large quantities of plutonium as fuel in their cores, and, in the event that nuclear fission has to be replaced one day by better sources of concentrated energy, they can dispose of, or "burn, "inventories of plutonium and actinides. This also eliminates plutonium "mines", a potential source of material for nuclear weapons proliferation.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Réacteurs nucléaires de fission
DEF

Record 3 2006-01-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Titles of International Laws and Regulations
  • CBRNE Weapons
  • Rules of Court
OBS

The United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics oppose the proliferation of nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, missiles capable of carrying such weapons, and certain other missiles and missile technologies. The more nations that possess such weapons, the more difficult it will be to realize the desire of people everywhere to achieve effective arms control and disarmament measures and to reduce the threat of war. Weapons proliferation can provoke or intensify insecurity and hostility among nations, and threatens mankind with warfare of unprecedented destructiveness.

English

Subject field(s)
  • CBRNE Weapons
  • Compartment - Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
CONT

... the AECB has limited its control of exports of uranium to matters concerning health, safety and security, including safeguards against nuclear weapons proliferation.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Armes CBRNE
  • Tiroir - Commission canadienne de sûreté nucléaire
CONT

[...] la CCEA a limité son contrôle des exportations de l'uranium aux questions relatives à [la santé], à la sûreté et à la sécurité, y compris les garanties contre toute prolifération des armes nucléaires.
