A system oriented toward defense of ICBMs. It was composed of traditional exoatmospheric components(the PAR phased-array radar and the Spartan long-range, nuclear-armed interceptor) and traditional terminal defense components(the MSR phased-array radar and the Sprint high-acceleration, nuclear-armed interceptor). This system was developed, extensively tested, and deployed at Grand Forks, North Dakota, in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It has subsequently been deactivated. 1, record 1, English, - Safeguard

A traditional terminal defense system oriented toward defense of ICBMs. It used phased-array radars, called Site Defense Radars, and a high-acceleration, nuclear-armed interceptor, the Sprint. The system was studied extensively in the mid-1970s, as a follow-on to Safeguard and as a hedge against Soviet breakout from the ABM TREATY. The Site Defense Radar was developed and tested. 1, record 3, English, - site%20defense%20system

A traditional terminal defense system oriented toward city defense. It used several phased-array radars, including the Perimeter Acquisition Radar(PAR) and the Missile Site Radar(MSR), and a high-acceleration, nuclear-armed reentry interceptor, the Sprint. This system was studied in the mid-1960s and represented a substantial advance over Nike-Zeus. Components of the system were developed and tested. 1, record 4, English, - Nike%2DX

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
A traditional terminal defense system oriented toward low-altitude defense of ICBMs. Both fixed and transportable versions have been considered. The system uses a phased-array radar and a high-acceleration, nuclear-armed interceptor(either Sprint or a new interceptor called Sentry). This system was studied in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and component development is under way. Essentially the same system was known as the Low-Altitude Defense System(LoADS) in the late 1970s. 1, record 5, English, - Sentry
