NUCLEATION PROCESS [6 records]

Record 1 2015-02-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
  • Atmospheric Physics
DEF

A cirrocumulus or altocumulus cloud in which a large circular or elliptical gap has appeared.

OBS

[The gap is] formed when the water temperature in the clouds is below freezing but the water has not frozen yet due to the lack of ice nucleation particles... When ice crystals do form, it will set off a domino effect, due to the Bergeron process, causing the water droplets around the crystals to evaporate : this leaves a large, often circular, hole in the cloud.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Phénomènes météorologiques, climatiques et atmosphériques
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemistry
OBS

The process by which nuclei are formed in [a] solution [is called nucleation].... The condensation of a compound on a foreign substance is called heterogeneous nucleation.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie
OBS

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radiological Physics (Theory and Application)
CONT

In this work, micro-Auger electron spectroscopy with in-plane spatial resolution was applied for the first time to study the nucleation and growth process of W islands. Results showed that W grew slowly and uniformly on TiN surfaces up to about one monolayer coverage, and then W islands nucleated and started to grow rapidly.

CONT

It is suggested that the above terms be used not only in a mathematical but also in a physical meaning: curdling to denote any cascade of instabilities resulting in contraction, and curd to denote a volume within which a physical characteristic becomes increasingly concentrated as a result of curdling.

CONT

The process of curdling is an important question for the science of fractals : a field equation which displays nucleation(curdling) of particles out of a pure radiation field is discussed. The particle formation arises naturally from the nonlinear character of the equation rather than from the imposed quantization conditions.

Domaine(s)
  • Mathématiques

DEF

PHR

nucléation canonique, pondérée.
