For all we know electrons and quarks are elementary particles, which means that in no experiment has there anything like a structure of these particles been seen. They appear point-like, unlike the proton, neutron, nucleus and atom that have sizes that can be measured. It is, of course, entirely possible that particles that are called elementary today shall turn out to be composite; let it be said though that they have been probed quite extensively.... The aim is to know all about them, their properties and their interactions. The idea is that from this nuclear physics, atomic physics, chemistry, in fact, the whole physical world derives. Thus particles and their interactions are the very fundamentals of nature. That is the view now. An elementary particle physicist studies primarily these elementary particles and not the larger structures such as protons, nuclei or atoms. 1, record 1, English, - elementary%20particle%20physicist

Nuclear physicists seek to understand not just the familiar forms of [nuclear] matter we see around us, but also exotic forms such as those that existed in the first moments after the Big Bang and that exist today inside neutron stars. The aim is to understand why matter takes on the specific forms now observed in nature and how that knowledge can benefit society in the areas of commerce, medicine, and national security. 2, record 2, English, - nuclear%20physicist

Two pathways to glaciogenic cloud seeding were developed. Static seeding aims at using modest or "optimal" amount of seeds with the target of forming ice (or snow) crystals that collect supercooled droplets in a process called riming, which leads to formation of graupels and their precipitation. 1, record 12, French, - ensemencement%20dynamique

Quasars, whose name is derived from the term "quasi-stellar radio sources", are very distant, point-like sources – which is why they received this slightly misleading moniker.(We now know their bright active galactic nuclei are also surrounded by galaxies, but the galaxies’ light is difficult to differentiate from the quasars’ light.) 8, record 13, English, - quasi%2Dstellar%20radio%20source

[A] thermonuclear bomb, also called hydrogen bomb, or H-bomb, [is a] weapon whose enormous explosive power results from an uncontrolled self-sustaining chain reaction in which isotopes of hydrogen combine under extremely high temperatures to form helium in a process known as nuclear fusion. The high temperatures that are required for the reaction are produced by the detonation of an atomic bomb. A thermonuclear bomb differs fundamentally from an atomic bomb in that it utilizes the energy released when two light atomic nuclei combine, or fuse, to form a heavier nucleus. 4, record 24, English, - hydrogen%20bomb

A nuclear-precession magnetometer which measures the proton-resonance frequency. The proton(hydrogen nucleus) has a magnetic moment because of its spin. The spin axes normally are oriented randomly and precess about the earth's magnetic field direction. A polarizing field normal to the earth's field is impressed on the nuclei for a short period to polarize the nuclei and is then removed. 1, record 36, English, - proton%2Dresonance%20magnetometer

The more neutron rich even-even tungsten isotopes are the only nuclei accessible by(particle, xn) reactions in the rare-earth region of deformation for which high-spin data on the yrast bands have yet to be reported. The tungsten isotopes are of some interest in this regard, because they bridge a region between no back-bending in the more neutron-rich hafnium isotopes, and a region of sharp yrast anomalies in the osmium isotopes. 2, record 59, English, - yrast

A cloud chamber containing air supersaturated with water vapor by sudden expansion, in which rapidly moving nuclear particles such as alpha or beta rays produced ionization tracks by condensation of vapor on the ions produced by the rays. 4, record 60, English, - Wilson%20cloud%20chamber

Cloud chambers were first developed by Charles T.R. Wilson around 1911 for experiments on the formation of rain clouds. Wilson knew that water vapour condensed around ions, atoms which have become charged by gaining or losing electrons. However, an alpha particle, for example, which had an electric charge, would leave a trail of ions as it passed through a gas. If water vapour condensed on these ions, the track of the alpha particle would become visible as a line of water droplets. 2, record 60, English, - Wilson%20cloud%20chamber

There are two basic types of cloud chambers in use today;(1) the expansion chamber... which depends upon expansion of the air, within the chamber, to cool it and thus create a supersaturated atmosphere, and(2) the continuous or diffusion type chamber..., that creates a supersaturated atmosphere by diffusion of vapor from the warm upper region of the chamber to the cooled bottom of the chamber. In both types, electrically charged ions created by nuclear particles colliding with atoms within the chamber atmosphere, serve as nuclei of condensation. 5, record 60, English, - Wilson%20cloud%20chamber

High brightness, short pulse width(<200 picoseconds) x-ray lasers now offer biologists the possibility of high-resolution imaging of specimens in an aqueous environment without the blurring effects associated with natural motion or chemical erosion. As a step toward developing the capabilities of this type of x-ray microscopy, a tantalum x-ray laser at a 44. 83-angstrom wavelength was used together with an x-ray zone plate optic to image both unlabeled and selectively gold-labeled dried rat sperm nuclei. In the image, 500-angstrom features are clearly visible. This illustrates the importance of x-ray microscopy in determining chemical composition. X-ray microscopy also provides information about the uniformity of sperm chromatin organization and the extent of sperm chromatin hydration. 2, record 74, English, - X%2Dray%20microscopy

The word radiation is commonly used in several distinct although related senses.-First, it is a term for the process by which energy is transferred and is able to exert an effect at a distance without the need for any physical connection between source and receiver. In this broad sense, radiation includes energy transfer both by electromagnetic waves(as in the case of gamma rays, ultra-violet rays or radio waves) and by energetic particles(such as alpha or beta particles emitted from nuclei in the process of radioactive decay). The more precise terms "electromagnetic radiation" and "particulate radiation" differentiate between these two phenomena. 2, record 94, English, - corpuscular%20radiation

4, record 94, French, - rayonnement%20corpusculaire
Record number: 94, Textual support number: 1 OBS
5, record 94, French, - rayonnement%20corpusculaire
Record number: 94, Textual support number: 2 OBS
3, record 94, French, - rayonnement%20corpusculaire

Stationary nuclear Overhauser effect. NMR [nuclear magnetic resonance] spectroscopy based on the nuclear Overhauser effect(NOE) between dipolar coupled nuclei is one of the most commonly used techniques to determine the spatial structure of proteins. Generally speaking the NOE describes the transfer of spin polarization from one spin population to another. The magnitude of the NOE highly depends on the distance between the dipolar coupled spins such that it can be used to determine interatomar distances within molecules. 1, record 100, English, - %20stationary%20nuclear%20Overhauser%20effect
