English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
  • Law of Evidence
DEF

The banding pattern on a Southern blot of an individual' s genomic DNA that has been cleaved with a restriction enzyme(s) and hybridized to an appropriate nucleic acid probe(s).

CONT

In the criminal justice context, "DNA profile" refers to a numerical representation of 13 specific points (loci) on a person’s [DNA] that allows law enforcement to compare evidence from a crime scene to other crime scenes or to known individuals, just as a fingerprint does.

Key term(s)
  • deoxyribonucleic acid fingerprint
  • deoxyribonucleic acid profile
  • deoxyribonucleic acid identification profile

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
  • Droit de la preuve
DEF

Record 2 2003-05-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Bioengineering
CONT

Specimens to be imaged with a CSLM [confocal scanning laser microscope] must be labelled with a fluorescent probe. Fluorescent probes are available for a wide range of biological preparations permitting the use of the CSLM to image such things as macromolecular structures(such as proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids) and physiological ions(such as Calcium and pH). The CSLM can be to image static fluorescent specimens, or to provide dynamic quantitative imaging and measurements.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Technique biologique
CONT
