NUCLEOID [3 records]

Record 1 2013-11-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

An organism(e. g., a bacterium or a blue-green alga), which does not have a true nucleus, the nuclear membrane being absent and the nuclear structures being collected in a nuclear region, or nucleoid, and the chromosomes lying naked(not combined with protein) in the cytoplasm of the cell. They usually have a rigid cell wall; they lack internal cellular structures such as mitochondria. All reproduce by cell division.

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF

Record 2 2011-01-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Immunology
CONT

The human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) consists of a nucleoid core and the surrounding protein matrix, both enclosed in a lipid envelope. The nucleoid core contains the viral genetic material and the reverse transcriptase enzyme, which are used in viral replication. The transmembrane glycoprotein and the envelope glycoprotein are attached to the envelope; these proteins enable HIV to bind and fuse with a target host cell.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Immunologie
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Cytology
  • Plant Biology
  • Biotechnology
CONT

The central region of the cyanobacterial cell is less colorful than the chromatoplasm; it is called the centroplasm. This region includes the nucleoid or nucleoplasm but should not be confused with a true nucleus. There is no nuclear envelope and no true nucleus in any cyanobacterium; all species are strictly prokaryotic. The region is less colorful because of the lack of thylakoids, but it is certainly not empty.

  • Biotechnologie
CONT
