As bats are protected in Europe, developers must implement specific mitigation measures that are hierarchically structured to achieve a null net impact. However, very few specific mitigation measures have been undertaken specifically for bats. Bat overpasses(e. g. gantries) are among proposed improvements intended to reduce the impact of roads, but they have rarely been tested. The effectiveness of overpasses in facilitating safe road crossing of bats is critical for justifying the implementation of this mitigation measure. 2, record 5, English, - bat%20overpass

1, record 14, French, - cardan%20interne

A range of values below and above the point estimate that has a given probability of including the true value of a given parameter, such as a treatment effect. 3, record 28, English, - confidence%20interval
Record number: 28, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The confidence interval is the area of uncertainty for the estimating of a parameter. The use of this interval reflects the fact that a study provides one estimate of a parameter, out of the many estimates that would be possible if the study were repeated several times. If an X% CI is constructed for each repetition, X% of the intervals will contain the true value of the parameter. Investigators typically use confidence intervals of 90%, 95% or 99%. Thus, a 95% confidence interval indicates that there is a 95% probability that the confidence interval calculated from a particular study includes the true value of the parameter. If the interval includes a null value(a difference in means of 0, an odds ratio or a relative risk of 1, or a correlation coefficient of 0, for example), the null hypothesis cannot be rejected. A narrow confidence interval around a point estimate indicates a more precise estimate than a wide confidence interval. 3, record 28, English, - confidence%20interval
Record number: 28, Textual support number: 2 OBS
The validity of the confidence interval depends upon knowledge of the underlying distribution of the population or assumptions about behavior of the sampling distribution. 4, record 28, English, - confidence%20interval

Record number: 28, Textual support number: 1 OBS
3, record 28, French, - intervalle%20de%20confiance

Making more subtle mutations : the "knock in". Although it is often desirable to simply inactivate a gene to determine the importance of a null phenotype, in many cases it is more informative not to inactivate a gene, but rather to modify it so that its function is altered. Again, this is a task(which is the logical equivalent of site directed mutagenesis in a plasmid) that can be solved by homologous recombination. In this case a targeting vector is designed as a replacement vector so that additional genetic sequence are added into the genome. This technique is sometimes called a "knock-in". 2, record 48, English, - replacement%20vector

OP is generally lower(more negative) than LWP [leaf water potential] and the difference between the two is turgor potential. Turgor is lost(null value) when LWP=OP... Leaf turgor is associated with cellular growth and function. When turgor becomes null cells collapse and the leaf wilts, though it is not dead. The single-axis inertial platform... The angular motions of the controlled member are sensed by the single-axis gyro. The output signal of the gyro is electronically processed and fed to the torque motor(TM) of the stable element and to the torque generator(TG) of the gyro. The problem is to determine how to do the electronic processing so that the controlled member maintains its orientation in spite of disturbances. The voltage across the output signal generator(SG) of the gyroscope is proportional to the integral of the angular velocity of the controlled member about the gyroscope's input axis. Consequently, this signal is fed to an amplifier and then to a motor, which drives the controlled member in the proper direction to null the ouptut of the gyroscope. 1, record 51, English, - output%20signal%20generator

The Kruskal-Wallis test [named after William Kruskal and Allen Wallis] is used to test the null hypothesis that all populations have identical distribution functions against the alternative hypothesis that at least two of the samples differ only with respect to location(median), if at all. It is the analogue to the F-test used in analysis of variance. While analysis of variance tests depend on the assumption that all populations under comparison are normally distributed, the Kruskal-Wallis test places no such restriction on the comparison. It is a logical extension of the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney Test. 1, record 60, English, - Kruskal%2DWallis%20test

The total water potential, which describes the energy of the water contained in the plant can be estimated from leaf water potential (LWP) measurements, by the use of the pressure bomb in salinity studies. The major components of LWP are leaf osmotic potential (LOP) and leaf turgor potential (LTP). Leaf water potential and leaf osmotic potential can be measured directly by the use of the pressure bomb and the vapor pressure osmometer, respectively. The LTP can be estimated by the equation LTP = LWP - LOP. 2, record 73, English, - leaf%20osmotic%20potential

Leaf water potential and leaf osmotic potential were measured on the same leaves. Both parameters were measured on leaf discs by the thermocouple psychrometric method ... The osmotic potential was measured after the sample (leaf disc) had been frozen over dry ice, thawed, and macerated with a small glass rod. The sap extract was then immediately placed on a filter paper disc in the C-52 sample chamber and its value of osmotic potential determined (Turner, 1981). 3, record 73, English, - leaf%20osmotic%20potential

A CMG (control moment gyro) is an actuator consisting of a spinner with a sustained kinetic moment modulus h and one or two motor-driven tilt axes. One-axis CMGs are used to generate very high dynamic moments. The produced gyroscopic torque is proportional to h and to the precession rate (i.e. tilting rate). It is orthogonal to the precession axis and is directly transmitted to the satellite by the tilt motor bearings. 2, record 82, English, - gyroscopic%20torque

The full maximum likelihood classifier uses the Gaussian threshold stored in each class signature to determine if a given pixel falls within the class or not. The threshold is the radius(in standard deviation units) of a hyperellipse surrounding the mean of the class in feature space. If the pixel falls inside the hyperellipse, it is assigned to the class, otherwise it is assigned to a null class. However, for this classification, the null class option was not utilized, thus the thresholds were ignored and every pixel was assigned to the most probable class, the nearest class based upon the Mahalanobis distance measure(Richards, 1986). 3, record 83, English, - class%20signature

2, record 89, French, - axe%20de%20r%C3%A9f%C3%A9rence%20de%20rotation

Microsyn.... Pick-off function. The primary windings are excited by a 20V 3. 2 KHz signal. This signal produces an error signal in the secondary windings whenever the armature is not in a null position. Torquer function. A DC [direct current] signal is applied to the primary windings which produces a torque directly proportional to the AC [alternating current] current flow already present in the primary windings. The detection of torque is dependant on the polarity of the applied DC signal. 1, record 95, English, - torquer%20function
