Each detector element projects an "instantaneous field of view(IFOV) "on the ground. The signal recorded by a detector element is proportional to the total radiation collected within its IFOV. Preprocessing is an important and diverse set of image preparation programs that act to offset problems with the band data and recalculate DN [Digital Number] values that minimize these problems. Among the programs that optimize these values are atmospheric correction(affecting the DNs of surface materials because of radiance from the atmosphere itself, involving attenuation and scattering) ;Sun illumination geometry; surface-induced geometric distortions; spacecraft velocity and attitude variations(roll, pitch, and yaw) ;effects of Earth rotation, elevation, curvature(including skew effects), abnormalities of instrument performance(irregularities of detector response and scan mode such as variations in mirror oscillations) ;loss of specific scan lines(requires destriping), and others. Once performed on the raw data, these adjustments require appropriate radiometric and geometric corrections. 2, record 13, English, - preprocessing

Indiana University Laboratory for Spectrochemistry. Plasma Source Mass Spectrometry. "Single-Crystal Scintillator-Based Array Detector for Sector-Field Mass Spectrometry, "[by] David A. Solyom. Beginning with the use of photographic plates in the first quarter of this century, array detectors have had a long history of usage in mass-spectrometric analysis. Array detectors are position-sensitive devices capable of independently measuring ion signals that are incident at different locations on the detector's face. Currently popular among the different types of array detectors available for mass spectrometry are microchannel-plate(s)(MCP) coupled with a phosphor.... The electrons emitted from the rear of the MCP strike the phosphor being held in close proximity(1mm) to the MCP. The phosphor screen is sensitive to the incident electrons and will emit photons in response. The number of emitted photons is proportional to the number of incident electrons and the location on the phosphor from which the photons are emitted coincides with the location of the incident electrons. The photons from the phosphor can then be converted into a proportional electronic signal by an imaging device such as a CCD or CID detector array. 2, record 14, English, - sector%20field%20mass%20spectrometry

The typical particle counter for metering the amount of particulate matter in clean work station air is an optical assembly. Air is drawn into and through the optical subassembly of the particle counter until a pre-set volume of air has been seen. The particles which are drawn into this optical subassembly cause a pulse of light to be scattered for each particle present. The light pulse is sensed by a detector which converts the pulse to an electrical voltage signal. Each signal is cumulatively counted, for the pre-set volume of air. From the amplitude of the voltage, the size of each particle can be determined. All particle counters consist of three basic subassemblies. These are the optical subassembly which "sees" the particles, a pump subassembly which draws the air stream into and through the optical subassembly, and an electronic subassembly for converting each particle size/unit number to an electrical signal. Also available, usually as an option, is some form of printer. 1, record 15, English, - particle%20counter

... the scanning-wavelength detector... has many advantages :... It offers a real-time spectrum from 190 to 600 nm that can be obtained in as little as 0. 01 s for each solute as it elutes.... Spectra are available for visual presentation as three-dimensional chromatograms of time vs. wavelength vs. absorbance.... When diode arrays are used as the detector, it is possible later to extract data at other wavelengths from the memory.... Some instruments can be configured to monitor simultaneously a number of wavelength intervals with bandwidths ranging between 4 and 400 nm. This permits the integration of all signals between two preset wavelengths.... With simultaneous absorbance detection at several wavelengths, the presence of coeluting peaks is diagnosed from the shifting of retention times as a function of detection wavelength.... Peak purity can be determined by taking a spectrum at the front and at the rear of a peak. 1, record 18, English, - scanning%2Dwavelength%20detector
