CONT

Another important subject within computer vision is image segmentation. It is the process of dividing an image into different regions based on the characteristics of pixels to identify objects or boundaries to simplify an image and more efficiently analyze it. Segmentation impacts a number of domains, from the filmmaking industry to the field of medicine. For instance, the software behind green screens implements image segmentation to crop out the foreground and place it on a background for scenes that cannot be shot or would be dangerous to shoot in real life

CONT

CONT

With the help of traditional and large-scale fishers, the project consists of testing net prototypes that reduce the negative effects of trawling on marine biodiversity while still catching shrimp. [The] project's [goal] is to address the negative impacts of shrimp trawling while considering ecological well-being, economic growth, and food security. Therefore, while those involved in the project are working to decrease the number of discarded sea creatures, they are also trying to put a commercial and/or food value on all creatures that are caught.

Subject field(s)
  • Tools and Equipment (Mechanics)
  • Hand Tools
DEF

A percussive rotary tool fitted with a multivane or oscillating motor driving a hammer which periodically strikes an anvil to tighten nuts and bolts without producing any reaction torque on the tool.

CONT

The technology of pneumatic impact wrenches is different from that of other portable fastening machines with rotor stalling which operate on the basis of the dynamic stall torque. After a certain movement of the rotor and of the moving masses, all or most of the rotational kinetic energy is transformed in the form of impacts. These impacts are received tangentially on the output shaft, which is not directly mechanically linked with the rotor, thus creating a succession of instantaneous rotational torques of irregular values which are transmitted to the part to be screwed. The number of impacts per revolution would depend on the design of the impact wrench.

OBS

pneumatic impact wrench; impact wrench: terms and definition standardized by ISO.

Domaine(s)
  • Outillage (Mécanique)
  • Outillage à main
DEF

CONT

Scenario testing uses a hypothetical future state of the world to define changes in risk factors affecting an institution's operations. This will normally involve changes in a number of risk factors, as well as ripple effects that are other impacts that follow logically from these changes and related management and regulatory actions. Scenario testing is typically conducted over the time horizon appropriate for the business and risks being tested.

One method used to measure ammunition and/or firearm consistency/precision(the ability to group). After determination of the mean point of impact of the group, the distance from this point to the centre of each impact is measured and recorded. The sum of these measurements divided by the number of impacts of the group is the Mean Radial Deviation(MRD).

In all jurisdictions, decision-making occurs in discrete steps. As the number of projects potentially subject to environmental assessment is usually large, a screening mechanism of a fairly decentralized nature exists, whereby small, routine projects with no substantial or significant impacts are screened out and allowed to proceed with a minimum loss of time and expense.

CONT

Hilborn and Walters(1981) discussed a number of reasons why traditional baseline and process studies fail to provide the information needed to predict environmental impacts. They aptly labelled such traditional pre-project environmental studies as "helicopter ecology". Ward(1978) agreed with these criticisms in her treatise on experimental impact assessment studies, and she succinctly described two common approaches to environmental assessment taken by some consultants, namely, the "busy taxonomist" approach and the "information broker" approach.
