Intermittent milking involves milking cows less frequently for a number of days before dry-off. If presently milked two or three times a day, they would be milked once daily for 5-7 days and then dried off. It appears that intermittent milking at dry-off speeds up the involution of the mammary gland, which increases its protection against infections. 2, record 2, English, - intermittent%20milking

The susceptible-infected-susceptible(SIS) model of Weiss and Dishon is one of the simplest models of endemic infections. The model describes the evolution of an infection in a fixed population, with no restriction on the possibility of reinfection of a previously infected and now recovered individual. This is in contrast to the venerable susceptible-infection-recovered(SIR) model, where reinfection is not permitted. Both models exhibit a threshold value of the infectivity, below which the infection immediately dies out. Below the threshold, where only a tiny fraction of the population is impacted, the two models have essentially equivalent statistical properties. Above the threshold, in the SIR model, the infection is self-limiting, since in a fixed population the number of potential new victims, the susceptible pool, is monotonically decreasing in size. The SIS model, on the other hand, describes an endemic infection which can(above the threshold) persist indefinitely, at least at the deterministic level. Thus, the statistics of infection size in the two models above the threshold are very different. 1, record 3, English, - susceptible%2Dinfected%2Dsusceptible%20model

For CWRS [Canada Western Red Spring] and CWAD [Canada Western Amber Durum], there are specific limits for kernels damaged by grasshopper and armyworm, midge and sawfly; grasshoppers and armyworms chew out sections of kernels, particularly the ends and sides; at an early stage, armyworms may chew tunnels through the kernels; this destroys the endosperm, and leaves the exposed chewed areas susceptible to fungal and bacterial infections; heavy discolourations and moulds may result; the orange wheat blossom midge causes a distinct form of damage; grade tolerances for midge have existed for many years based primarily on the shrivelling and distortion of midge-damaged kernels; the tiny midge larvae feed directly on the developing kernels in the heads of wheat; the extent of damage largely depends on the number of larvae feeding on each kernel. Only recently have the full effects of midge damage on Canadian red spring bread wheat quality been studied, revealing the seriousness of midge damage to quality. The shrunken distorted grains reduce flour yields and produce dark flours with increased flour ash. Severely midge-damaged wheat exhibits weak, sticky dough properties, low baking absorption and poor bread quality. Protein content is abnormally high, but gluten protein quality is distinctly inferior. 2, record 6, English, - insect%20damage

2, record 6, French, - dommages%20caus%C3%A9s%20par%20les%20insectes

National Immunization Coverage Surveys(NICS) are implemented every 2 years by Immunization and Respiratory Infections Division(IRID) of the Public Health Agency of Canada(PHAC) in order to assess national coverage rates for routine childhood immunizations and for select adult immunizations during alternating years. Questions on knowledge, attitudes and beliefs(KAB) towards immunization were added to the Surveys from 1998 onwards. The purpose of these surveys is to monitor immunization coverage levels over a number of years; to assess up-to-date and on-time immunization coverage levels; to evaluate changes in KAB; and to monitor progress towards national immunization coverage goals. 1, record 7, English, - National%20Immunization%20Coverage%20Survey

1, record 7, French, - Enqu%C3%AAte%20nationale%20sur%20la%20vaccination

Erythema multiforme is an immunologic reaction in the skin and mucous membranes often mediated by circulating immune complexes that evolve in response to a number of antigenic stimulae(infections, drugs, connective tissue disease). As the name implies, the skin reaction is characterized by a variety of lesions, namely, erythematous plaques, blisters, and target or bull' s-eye lesions. Lymphoblastoid cells are a good source of a interferon, which has been purified from them. All a interferons show a characteristic resistance to acid pH. 2, record 14, English, - alpha%2Dinterferon

A recent experimental study on a number of diagnostic tests for bovine tuberculosis infections suggest that a caudal fold tuberculin test for bison and a mid-cervical tuberculin test for deer, in conjunction with a comparative cervical tuberculin test, are effective in the diagnosis of the disease in bison and deer. 1, record 15, English, - mid%2Dcervical%20tuberculin%20test

It is evident that a number of factors must contribute to allergy and this has led to the hypothesis of allergic breakthrough, where clinical symptoms of allergy are only seen when an arbitrary level of immunological activity(allergic breakthrough) is exceeded. This will depend on a number of conditions, including exposure to allergen, genetic predisposition, the tendency to make IgE, and other factors, such as the presence of upper respiratory tract viral infections, decreased suppressor activity or transient IgA deficiency. 1, record 16, English, - allergic%20breakthrough
