In addition to the provision of operational services to the NCA, the NCOEs formulate policy, establish national product standards, develop new/enhanced products and services for delivery to the CSUs and oversee their implementation. The NCOEs provide functional direction to Regional COEs in support of Real Property Services nationally. The NCSUs provide a focal point for national clients and furnish functional guidance to Regional CSUs. "

The Oshawa Railway Company was born in 1895, and effectively died on May 2, 1964 when the line was 100% dieselized by the CNR, however, power was not shut off until July 2, 1964. The OR was built, as most railways were, to provide both freight and passenger service. In the case of the OR, its operation was confined to the City of Oshawa even though they operated a number of passenger cars that would have been more suited to interurban operation. The main passenger line ran in a north-south direction on Simcoe Street, from Ross’ Corners down to Lakeview Park on the shores of Lake Ontario. When passenger service ended in 1940, several cars were re-distributed among other Canadian National Electric Railway lines where they saw many more years of use.

An issue of considerable interest is the so-called multicellular thunderstorm system, as opposed to supercells, which are often presumed to be unicellular. A form of multicellular convection that has already been simulated extensively is the squall line. The typical method for simulating this form of deep line-oriented convection has been to release a number of laterally-aligned IB's. After the initial storms develop, their outflows merge, producing a line of convection resembling a squall line. Squall lines are not the only type of multicellular convection observed, however. In isolated multicell storms, a succession of updrafts is typical.

The type of storm depends on the instability and relative wind conditions at different layers of the atmosphere (shear). Generations derived from two transgenic barley lines were inluded in the trial. These were produced using th BioRad PDS 1000/He particle device to introduce DNA to immature embryos of the spring variety Golden Promise,(Harwood et al. submitted to Euphytica). Line HB1 contains the plasmid pAHC25(Christensen and Quail, 1996) and line HC1 contains plasmids pAL51 and pAL74(Lonsdale et al. 1995). Both pAHC25 and pAL51 contain the bar gene, encoding herbicide resistance, as a selectable marker as well as a reporter gene, gus or luc repectively, and pAL74 contains a fungal glucoamylase gene. Both T1 and T2 generations of line HB1 were represented in the trial, where T0 was the primary transformant. Only the T1 generation of HC1 was included. Lines HB1 and HC1 were selected for the field trial from a number of transgenic lines in the glasshouse. These lines were chosen on the basis of a visual selection for normal appearance and full fertility. Both lines had normal chromosome number and showed the expected sigle gene segregation in the T1 generation.
