Formed elements consist of three things : red blood cells(RBCs/erythrocytes), white blood cells(WBCs/leucocytes), and platelets(thrombocytes). Further, WBCs have granulocytes(neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils) and agranulocytes(monocytes, lymphocytes)... In all cases, an automated blood cell counter calculates the number of cells in these areas to see if it is between the ideal range to ensure everything is perfectly fine. Therefore, an automated blood cell counter or hematology analyzer is a machine that automatically counts the blood cells from the given sample of blood and displays the count as a result. 1, record 3, English, - automated%20blood%20cell%20counter

SMBG works by having patients perform a number of glucose tests each day or each week. Test results are then recorded in a logbook or stored in the glucose meter's electronic memory. Regression of a corpus luteum. Two factors appear to be involved in luteolysis in most domestic animals; one being prostaglandin F2a and the other being follicular oestrogen synthesis. It has been suggested that PGF2a is the normal luteolytic compound, and that it is transferred from the non-gravid uterus to the ovary by some form of counter-current distribution between the uterine vein and ovarian artery. While the actual route for PGF2a transfer is in some doubt its physiological role is certain. 2, record 21, English, - luteolysis

A term introduced by the U. S. S. R. to refer to U. S. nuclear systems that have less than intercontinental range but which, because of their location, could reach targets in the Soviet Union. The U. S. S. R. regards these as strategic and tried unsuccessfully to get them covered first by Salt 1 and then in negotiations on theatre nuclear forces. It sought ’compensation’ for FBS's by being permitted to possess a large number of central systems in her arsenal. Around 1975-1976 the question of FBS's became the touchstone in Europe for the USA's sympathy for its NATO allies during the Salt II negotiations. 2, record 22, English, - forward%20based%20system

Usually, the phrase "public nuisance" describes a criminal or quasi-criminal offence which involves actual or potential interference with public convenience or welfare. A public nuisance must materially affect the reasonable comfort and convenience of life of a class of Her Majesty's subjects. It is not necessary to establish that every member of the public has been affected, as long as a substantial number is.... One test is to ask whether the nuisance is "so widespread in its range or indiscriminate in its effect that it is not reasonable to expect one person to take proceedings on his own responsibility to put a stop to it, but that it should be taken on the responsibility to the community at large". 2, record 36, English, - public%20nuisance

Colloidal Propulsion. Colloidal thrusters were developed extensively in the seventies but then work was stopped.... a number of problems prevented them from becoming a viable technology. In order to achieve useable thrusts(in the mN range) the researchers had to try and make large number arrays of the needle emitters. They found reproducible and consistent manufacturing to be difficult to achieve and as well as this, the size of the thrusters soon became inattractive. Another disadvantage was the extremely high voltage needed to achieve the perfomance, voltages well in excess of 10kV were required for operation and this was neither easy or desirable from a spacecraft power perspective. 1, record 38, English, - colloidal%20propulsion

While the SFCS has a number of features and capabilities designed to vastly improve target identification and hand-off among a number of operators, its core is a muzzle velocity sensor. The system sits on the Picatinny rail of any weapon and draws on a number of acoustic sensors to characterize how the weapon is performing between the time the primer of a round is struck and the bullet leaves the barrel.... Meteorological and other sensor inputs are fed into a ballistics computation that then gives a range azimuth correction to the operator. It helps the operator correct his aim point so that his probability of hit for second, third and fourth rounds is that much more accurate. 1, record 42, English, - soldier%20fire%20control%20system

A constant of great practical importance since it is equal to the substrate concentration required to reach half the maximum velocity. Airfoil blade fans... are the most efficient of all centrifugal fans. These fans are most applicable to large systems where the energy saving owing to their high efficiency offsets their relatively high cost. The blades, which usually number ten to sixteen on the impeller, are contoured to react like an airplane wing. Airfoil fans produce extremely smooth flows and, for a given use, are the highest speed centrifugal fans. These fans have stable operation and low noise level over their full range. Airfoil blades are expensive to produce and repair, limiting their use to clean, nonabrasive gases. The construction of the scroll, the close internal clearances, and the precise alignment of the impeller and inlet bell are features which aid in attaining the high efficiencies of these fans. 3, record 46, English, - airfoil%20fan

The behaviour of steel or composite joints under cyclic loading is characterized by hysteretic loops with progressive degradation of strength and stiffness that eventually leads to failure of the joint. A typical natural event that, for simplicity, is usually approximated by cyclic loading is an earthquake. Usually, seismic events provoke relatively high amplitudes of rotation in the joint area, so that steel repeatedly reaches the plastic range and the joint fails after a relatively small number of cycles. This typical behaviour is usually called oligocyclic fatigue, in close analogy with the behaviour of steel under repeated cyclic loading stressed into the plastic regime. 1, record 57, English, - oligocyclic%20fatigue

The analytical electron microscope(AEM) is based on a conventional 200 keV transmission electron microscope(TEM) which has been augmented to include the functions of a scanning transmission electron microscope(STEM) and the scanning electron microscope(SEM). Since the electrons must penetrate through the specimen, the specimen dimensions must be no greater than 1 micrometer thick, and preferably in the range of 100 nm. Bulk specimens may be thinned to this range by a combination of mechanical, chemical, and ion sputtering techniques, all of which are available in the microanalysis laboratory. As an imaging tool, the AEM is capable of 0. 3 nm spatial resolution in the TEM mode, 1 nm resolution in the STEM mode, and 3 nm resolution in the SEM mode. Elemental microanalysis is carried out by means of energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry(EDS) and electron energy loss spectrometry(EELS), which together provide sensitivity to all elements with atomic number > 2. Quantitative analysis is carried out by means of a relative sensitivity factor method based on glass, mineral, and metal alloy standards. 2, record 58, English, - analytical%20electron%20microscope

2, record 58, French, - microscope%20%C3%A9lectronique%20analytique

Paste backfill is defined as an engineered mixture of fine solid particles (with binder) and water, containing between 72% and 85% solids by weight. Particles in a paste mixture will not settle out of the mixture if allowed to remain stationary in a tank or in a pipeline. It can be placed in stopes with or without binder addition depending on the strength requirements for backfill. Improved pumping technology, environmental concerns and the need for a low cost/high strength fill in mines are driving mine operators to consider paste backfill as a tailings management and mine backfill alternative. The main advantages and disadvantages of a paste backfill system over a conventional hydraulic backfill plant are generally accepted as: ... higher strengths can be achieved with an equivalent cement content; drainage of water and slimes from the fill are minimized, reducing the need for bulkhead construction and extensive drainage works. This feature also reduces maintenance on sumps and mine de-watering pumps; in some cases, unclassified tailings can be used to make paste rather than just the coarse fraction as is the case for hydraulic backfill; shorter stope cycle times can be achieved because an equivalent strength can be achieved in a shorter time with paste backfill; paste backfill systems achieve lower porosities than conventional fill thereby increasing the tonnage of material that can be disposed of underground; and, since paste backfill is deposited as a non-segregated mass of backfill (because cement particles are not displaced by the internal movements of the draining water), more predictable strength properties for the fill can be achieved. 2, record 78, English, - paste%20backfilling%20system

Paste backfilling of mines. A number of mines are installing paste fill systems to replace the current sand fill method. The justification and economies of this conversion include : higher production levels(less wait for dewatering), increased grade of ore to the mill, decrease of stope ore left as pillars, improved haulage with the removal of excess moisture, increased filling rates, and a higher strength fill with less waiting time. The unique problems associated with paste fill applications range from extremely rapid system wear to paste separation and system blockage. 3, record 78, English, - paste%20backfilling%20system

Remblayage. 2, record 78, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20remblayage%20par%20p%C3%A2te

The gas state equation is hidden in many common everyday thermodynamic observations, like for instance in the weather forecast. It is used to calculate certain properties of gases, namely: Temperature (T), pressure (p) and volume (V). These properties together are called the state of a gas. The most common form of the gas equation is the equation for an ideal gas [that] is a gas consisting of point-like particles which do not interact with each other (ie, they do not stick together or repel each other). 3, record 88, English, - equation%20of%20state

Laminar liquid flow with a low-Reynolds number falling outside the range of many mass transfer correlations is normal for immobilized enzyme systems. The rate of mass transfer from the bulk solution to a surface can be written as... where km is the mass transfer coefficient(with units of cm/s), am is the surface area per unit volume(cm[ superscript-1]), Sb is the bulk phase substrate concentration, and Ss is the substrate concentration at the surface. Under steady-state conditions, this mass transfer rate must equal the reaction rate at the particle surface or the apparent rate within the particle. 3, record 93, English, - mass%20transfer%20coefficient

3, record 93, French, - coefficient%20de%20transfert%20de%20masse
