Numerical scoring system developed by Friedenwald, Hughes and Herrmann for the evaluation of primary irritants using the rabbit's eye(for the toxicologic appraisal of a given compound). Table 6 : Scale of weighted scores for grading the severity of ocular lesions : I. Cornea : A. Opacity... B. Area involved.... Total maximum score=80. II. Iris :... Total possible maximum=10. III. Conjunctivae :... Total maximum=20. The maximum total score(110) is the sum of all scores obtained for the cornea, iris and conjunctivae. NB : A test score may result in a fraction [as shown in the above example 67. 7/110] because of the fact that it represents the average of all the animals in the test group.

The above context was taken from an article by Draize et. al. in the December 1984 issue of the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, which is the basis for the cited irritation score. This article along with supplementary explanations on this concept were given to us by Evan D. Riehl, M.D., Medical Consultant at E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company, Newark, Delaware, USA.

Integral transport methods. The integral transport methods construct an expression for the angular flux at a given location by integrating over all external and scattering sources that could contribute, taking in account the probability of the source neutral reaching the given location without a collision. The collision probability method result from partitioning the domain of the problem into a large number of finite size regions and formulating the equation to calculate the average value of the neutral flux in each region. Like the Monte Carlo method, the result of collision probability method can be very accurate. This method has been successfully implemented for neutral propagating in 3D rectangular grids. Since the collision probability method is based on a global particle balance, the neutral flux at a given region is coupled to the neutral scalar flux of any other regions via collision probabilities which must be calculated by multi-dimensional numerical integration involving expensive evaluation of Bickley functions.

Currently, multi channel and multi sensor data sources from GOES and POES satellites have been used for meteorological evaluation, interpretation, validation, and assimilation(into Numerical Weather Prediction Models) to assess hydrological and hydro geological risks(Barrett, 1996).

[...] Concernant la cartographie des inondations en particuliers, la phase de l'onde radar pourrait apporter des éléments supplémentaires pour infirmer ou confirmer la présence d'eau, mais nécessiterait d'importants développements pour être utilisable en temps rapide pendant la crise. D'autres modes de fonctionnement à haute résolution temporelle, tels que le champ large ou la basse résolution, seraient à évaluer pour réaliser des cartes à très grande échelle, surveiller de grands bassins et disposer ainsi d'une vision d'ensemble de la situation.
