Most exposure to fluoride for the general population comes from drinking water, beverages and foods prepared from drinking water, and dental products. Fluorides can also be present to a lesser extent in the atmosphere and soil. An allocation factor is a number that represents the proportion of total exposure to fluoride that can be attributed to drinking water for the most sensitive subpopulation. It is used to inform the calculation of the health-based value, which is the numerical value at which health effects could be observed. 1, record 1, English, - allocation%20factor

In transmission engineering, most often it would be rather impractical to characterize the magnitude of signals directly by a numerical value in volts or watts. Instead, a logarithmic measure is used, expressed in "dB" [decibel], to characterize the signal magnitude in relation to some chosen reference value. Estimates of catch typically make up the bulk of the data that is applied to a stock assessment model. But most stock assessment models also require some kind of index of abundance. The index of abundance is a value that indicates the trend in relative abundance over time. Often[,] an index of abundance is simply the number of fish caught during a survey. The index of abundance for a cod stock, for example, may be the average number of cod caught per tow from a research vessel. Each tow would be of a specified length, depth and speed using a standardized net, so that the index of abundance values could be compared over time. 3, record 7, English, - abundance%20index

ln addition to a tender point count, dolorimetry testing was done. A dolorimeter is a pressure algometer. It is a spring-loaded gauge attached to a rod with a soft rubber stopper at one end. The other end of the rod is attached to the spring. The patient undergoes testing by having certain anatomic areas placed in contact with the rubber stopper. The shaft of the instrument is then advanced slowly(about one kg. per second) by the examiner, and progressively greater pressure is applied until the patient complains of pain. "atomic mass unit" : For an element, it is the number which specifies how many times heavier one atom of the element is than one atom of hydrogen. The atomic mass unit is the unit of measure of the mass particle(atom, molecule, ion, etc.). The numerical value of the mass of a particle in amu, s is identical with the older atomic weight. The nucleus of an atom is made up of neutrons and protons. The total mass of the neutrons and protons along with the electrons gives the mass of the atom. ... L'établissement de tables de poids atomiques [...]. [...]

Integral transport methods. The integral transport methods construct an expression for the angular flux at a given location by integrating over all external and scattering sources that could contribute, taking in account the probability of the source neutral reaching the given location without a collision. The collision probability method result from partitioning the domain of the problem into a large number of finite size regions and formulating the equation to calculate the average value of the neutral flux in each region. Like the Monte Carlo method, the result of collision probability method can be very accurate. This method has been successfully implemented for neutral propagating in 3D rectangular grids. Since the collision probability method is based on a global particle balance, the neutral flux at a given region is coupled to the neutral scalar flux of any other regions via collision probabilities which must be calculated by multi-dimensional numerical integration involving expensive evaluation of Bickley functions. 3, record 25, English, - collision%20probability%20method

3, record 27, French, - constante%20de%20dissociation

The speed of light in a vacuum is an important physical constant denoted by the letter c for "constant" or the Latin word "celeritas" meaning "swiftness". It is the speed of all electromagnetic radiations, including visible light, in a vacuum. More generally, it is the speed of anything having zero rest mass.... In metric units, the speed of light is exactly 299, 792, 458 metres per second(1, 079, 252, 848. 8 km/h). The fundamental SI unit of length, the metre, has been defined since October 21, 1983, as the distance light travels in a vacuum in 1/299, 792, 458 of a second; any increase in the precision of the measurement of the speed of light would refine the definition of the metre, but not alter the numerical value of c. The approximate value of 3x108 m/s is commonly used in rough estimates. In imperial units, the speed of light is about 670, 616, 629. 2 miles per hour or 983, 571, 056 feet per second, which is about 186, 282, 397 miles per second, or roughly one foot per nanosecond. The speed of light when it passes through a transparent or translucent material medium, like glass or air, is slower than its speed in a vacuum. The ratio of c to the observed phase velocity is called the refractive index of the medium. 5, record 33, English, - speed%20of%20light

In the structure of SHCOLAR's semantic network(Carbonell 1970) there are already facilities to support the lack-of-knowledge strategy. The concept hierarchy can be used to collect objects similar to the original one : they must be its siblings with respect to a common superordinate. The depth of knowledge can be measured by the numerical relevance tags associated with information. For example, if oil is not on the list of Uruguay's products, this does not necessarily imply that Uruguay does not produce oil at all since the database may be incomplete. Furthermore, there is no list of goods that a country does not produce. But, if oil is mentioned for another country say Venezuela-with a relevance-tag value at which something else is known for Uruguay, this is an induction that oil is not produced in Uruguay. 2, record 37, English, - lack%2Dof%2Dknowledge%20strategy

Daily Severity Rating-A numerical measure, based on the Fire Weather Index(FWI), specifically designed for averaging, either for any desired period of time(e. g. week, month, year) at a single fire weather station or spatially over a number of stations. The FWI itself, on the other hand, is not considered suitable for averaging, and should be used as its single daily value only. The DSR averaged over a whole fire season is termed the Seasonal Severity Rating(SSR) which can be used as an objective measure for comparing fire weather severity from one season to the next, or the fire climate of one region with another. 2, record 38, English, - seasonal%20severity%20rating

Filtering is an operation designed to improve image readability and/or to extract certain information from them. The principle of the various filters is to modify the numerical value of each pixel as a function of the neighbouring pixel values. For example, if the value of each pixel is replaced by the average of its value and those of its eight neighbours the image is smoothed, that is to say, the finer details disappear and the image appears fuzzier. In "mobile window filtering" the programme computes for a given pixel the sum of the products of the neighbouring pixel values multiplied by coefficients given in a table of coefficients, then repeats the operation for the next pixel and so on. 3, record 44, English, - filtering

In BIP-I, the student model is defined only in terms of the skills, though in general other levels could be used as well. Associated with each skill is a pair of numerical values. One value stands for the system's estimate of the student's mastery of the skill and is updated by very simple techniques according to his performance on each task. The other stands for the student's own estimate of his understanding and is updated in the course of a short interview following each exercise. Since problem selection takes both values into account, this is an interesting, albeit simple, combination of inferential and interactive diagnosis. 2, record 74, English, - interactive%20diagnosis

Many municipalities... impose occupancy standards relating to the social composition of households--restricting the residence of unrelated roomers, for example--which have the effect of constraining the available supply of housing for certain groups. An occupancy standard can also be expressed as a numerical value when it is based on the number of bedrooms needed to accommodate households of different sizes and compositions adequately but not luxuriously. For example, a one person household requires a bachelor unit, a two-person household, a one-bedroom unit, a four-person household with children of different sex requires a three-bedroom unit, etc. 1, record 86, English, - occupancy%20standard
