The Red River style of log building construction was one of the original methods used in Canada. The logs were left rounded with notched ends. This type of construction consisted of a basic frame of grooved, vertical, squared posts, mortised and tenoned into sills at their bases or set directly into the ground (in rare, early cases), and at their tips, mortised and tenoned into squared plates. Horizontal, squared timbers were fixed between these posts, with the tenons of the horizontal timbers fitting into the vertical groove of the posts. Roof structures of varying types were built on the wall plates. Red River Frame construction allowed both flexibility and portability. Large buildings could be erected using short logs, and buildings could be easily dismantled, moved and put up elsewhere. For these reasons, Red River Frame was the predominant type of construction used in the Canadian West during the fur trade era. The Red River style of log construction has spread across North America and is currently enjoying new popularity. Red River log construction is yet another Metis contribution to the development of Canada. 2, record 5, English, - Red%20River%20frame%20construction

Buildings constructed before 1870 are of great importance because they recall the Red River Settlement era. Ottawa, Canadian Heritage. Generally, "Religious Objects" are used in a context of worship. They deal with a religious subject or have religious symbolism. Religious objects are also associated with members of the church community, for instance, religious orders, nuns or priests. Religious objects adorn places of worship and are used in devotions or in ceremonies. They may also be found outside the walls of a church, in a house or in a cemetery, or as in the case with the objects presented here, in a museum. The Religious Objects Database contains more than 300 records of objects with corresponding images. Through these objects and the relevant information which accompanies each, you will discover the richness of a cultural and religious heritage. The data are written in the language of each museum or institution responsible for the care of the objects and has not been translated. 1, record 13, English, - Religious%20Objects%20Database

This feast is celebrated in the Latin Church on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday to solemnly commemorate the institution of the Holy Eucharist. The instrument in the hand of Divine Providence was St. Juliana of Mont Cornillon, in Belgium. She was born in 1193 at Retines near Liège. Orphaned at an early age, she was educated by the Augustinian nuns of Mont Cornillon. Here she in time made her religious profession and later became superioress. Intrigues of various kinds several times drove her from her convent. She died 5 April, 1258, at the House of the Cistercian nuns at Fosses, and was buried at Villiers. Juliana, from her early youth, had a great veneration for the Blessed Sacrement, and always longed for a special feast in its honour. This desire is said to have been increased by a vision of the Church under the appearance of the full moon having one dark spot, which signified the absence of such a solemnity. She made known her ideas to Robert de Thorete, then Bishop of Liège, to the learned Dominican Hugh, later cardinal legate in the Netherlands, and to Jacques Pantaléon, at that time Archedeacon of Liège, afterwards Bishop of Verdun, Patriarch of Jerusalem and finally Pope Urban IV. 1, record 15, English, - Corpus%20Christi
