Growing up, it was only a matter of months before my older sister's new clothes became her old ones… and then morphed into my new ones again. I’d rejoice over each new dress or pair of shoes as if it had come straight from the Sears catalogue in a pretty package with my name on it. But it hadn’t. It was just a hand-me-down – a second hand garment that still served a purpose. 3, record 1, English, - hand%2Dme%2Ddown

The Biscuit Mixing Method is a popular and easy way to make biscuits. Measure all ingredients accurately. Combine the dry ingredients together into a mixing bowl. Combine the liquid ingredients and chill. Cut in the chilled fat, using the paddle attachment of a stand mixer, food processor or by hand, using a pastry blender or your fingers. Continue until the mixture resembles a coarse cornmeal. Slowly add the liquid to the dry ingredients. ... hand held weather stations take about every weather factor into consideration.... Very sophisticated ones not only measure weather conditions every second but make E. T. or throttle stop predictions every 4 seconds. A sophisticated drag racing weather station will allow you to store data on as many as 256 previous runs and performs an analysis to give you a prediction based on the weather conditions instantly. It can keep and use separate databases for separate vehicles, tracks, or classes. Some of the really sophisticated stations have a prediction deviation function [which] gives a reliability value of the prediction. It gives you a margin of error based on the information in the database that you chose. The Kestrel line of wind meters or anemometers ... in less than 60 seconds, provide the answer to the major spraying season question that haunts producers each morning: "How windy is it?" The Kestrel 1000 ... gives a fast answer to wind speed average and gusts. ... the model 2000 will add temperature and for those really cold days on the sprayer, add wind chill to that list. The 3000 adds humidity, dew point and heat stress index ... . But for an all out weather station you can hold in the palm of your hand, the Kestrel 4000 provides all of this, in addition to wet bulb, altitude, air density and barometric pressure. Most importantly, 250 of these readings can be recorded in the device’s memory and later transferred to the farm computer. ... Michael Naughton of Nielsen Keller-man said the company released the 1000 in 1999 with the intention of it being a tool for sailors and outdoor sports and weather enthusiasts. "Farmers are turning out to be a really big part of our business. The 4000 is really popular with them. In Spanish there are at least 18 possible ways of translating the generic English term "hole". In tennis, only 2 of the terms are used. The term "agujero", used in many subject fields other than in tennis, refers more often than not to a small hole that usually goes right through an object as in the phrase "un agujero en el pantalón". "Hueco", on the other hand, usually alludes to a hole in the shape of a shaft, tunnel or more specifically in tennis, an alley or lane. Moreover phraseological units containing either of the two terms are not interchangeable. Hence the two terms are very close synonyms but not perfect synonyms. See the usage samples below. Note also that in English the term "opening" may also have different meanings : 1) an opportunity to break even or break ahead 2) a spot on the court that is not being covered by one's opponent. 1, record 17, English, - hole

Fractal image compression systems relate finite strings of zeros and ones to infinite images in a smooth and continuous manner. They make use of approximating entities(image approximants) which, on the one hand, represent the very members of the mathematical space we have chosen for making images, and, on the other hand, are controlled by finitely many parameters.... 2, record 23, English, - image%20approximant

Handholds offer maximum security when all fingers are used. 3, record 24, English, - handhold
Record number: 24, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Handholds vary considerably. The easiest to use are those incut ones that the fingers can curl round and afford a pull; these are often called "jugs" if they are large. Pressure holds are holds where there is no grip as such and one relies on the friction of the rock. They may be sideways. There is also the "pinch grip", where the rock can be squeezed between fingers. A jammed hold(jamming) is when the hand is jammed into a crack for a pull. An undercut hold is one that is upside down, but it can be useful. 4, record 24, English, - handhold

... We would make the distinction between live metaphors and dead ones. The latter are of no interest for our present purpose : for instance, there is no need to translate "river mouth" by "les bouches du fleuve" rather than "l'estuaire". The argument for including live metaphors on the other hand is that they add information : this is based on the idea that metaphors are derived from similes and that similes make comparisons.... 1, record 26, English, - live%20metaphor
