The Business Integration Office(BIO), also included in the Office of the Director General ensures the effective operation of BGTD, including operational and strategic planning and performance measurement. The air mobility element provides air mobility integration and coordination of US Transportation Command-assigned air mobility forces. The air mobility element receives direction from the director of mobility forces and is the primary team for providing coordination with the tanker airlift control center. The Latin American Integration Association(LAIA) was established by the Treaty of Montevideo(August 1980) and became operational in March 1981. It seeks economic cooperation among its 11 members--Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. LAIA replaced the Latin American Free Trade Association(LAFTA) which had been established in 1960 with the aim of developing a common market in Latin America. The scheme made little progress, and LAIA was created with a more flexible and more limited role of encouraging free trade but with no timetable for the institution of a common market.

Within any transportation infrastructure there are many levels of operational control differentiated by the complexity of their systems. The highest levels are those where ITS [intelligent transportation systems] technologies are deployed in order to streamline system efficiency. The higher the level of complexity, the higher the rate of integration. For example, traffic signs and markings represent a basic level of operational control. Moving up from this level to the next might involve the use of independently controlled traffic signals. The next progessive step could be centrally coordinated preprogrammed systems of traffic controllers.
