Record 4 2014-07-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cancers and Oncology
  • The Pancreas
CONT

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, or PDAC, is by far the most common type of pancreatic malignancy. PDAC is distinct from other cancers due to the biological barrier the tumor builds around itself.

CONT

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas develop from cells lining the ducts that carry the digestive juices into the main pancreatic duct and then on into the duodenum. They can grow anywhere in the pancreas, although most often they are found in the head of the pancreas. There are several rare variants of PDAC, including adenosquamous carcinoma and colloid carcinoma.

Key term(s)
  • pancreatic ductal adeno-carcinoma

French

Domaine(s)
  • Cancers et oncologie
  • Pancréas
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Symptoms (Medicine)
  • The Pancreas
  • Liver and Biliary Ducts
DEF

The growing together, the adhesion, the continuous coherence, the concretion between normally separate particles or separate structures.

CONT

Chronic calcifying pancreatitis is the most common form, by far. It is characterized by irregular distribution within the gland with varying degrees of obstruction of the primary and secondary pancreatic ducts. The initiating event is believed to be fibrillar proteins precipitating in small pancreatic duct branches; these protein plugs calcify by surface accretion.

Domaine(s)
  • Symptômes (Médecine)

Record 7 2008-03-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging
CONT

Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography(MRCP) is a relatively new technique for viewing the bile ducts, the pancreatic duct and the gallbladder. No contrast medium has to be administered for MRCP, unlike some other techniques. MRCP uses magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) to produce detailed pictures.

Key term(s)
  • magnetic resonance cholangio-pancreatography

French

Domaine(s)
  • Imagerie par résonance magnétique
DEF

Technique de diagnostic non invasive permettant de visualiser les canaux pancréatiques et les canaux biliaires.
