Andersen 2000 Inc and Montair Andersen bv have been responsible for many of today's standards in the area of scrubber technology. Not only do we manufacture complete packaged scrubbing systems for all types of industrial applications, we also design and manufacture scrubbers for applications including fine particulate removal, gas absorption, and dust and large particulate matter collection.... Some of the scrubber technologies available from Andersen are Venturi Scrubbers, Packed Bed Scrubbers, Ejector Scrubbers, Triven Scrubbers, and Low Energy Scrubbers. These systems all use liquid as part of the scrubbing process. And as a result, they are referred to as "Wet Scrubbers".... We also offer "Dry Scrubbers" including Dry Injection Type and the Spray Dry Absorption Type. These use a dry alkaline powder to absorb acid gases and a fabric filter Baghouse to collect particulate matter.

Bennett Remtech utilizes a dry scrubber to remove acid gases. Flue gas is quenched to approach the acid dewpoint temperature. The gas then comes into contact with a reagent such as lime. The acid gases are removed, without any required water treatment.

A measure of light absorption by particles, defined as that quantity of light scattering solids producing an optical density of 0.1.

coefficient of haze(COH)(in atmospheric chemistry) : One technique of measurement of the amount of filterable particulate matter suspended in air which has been used in the past depends upon drawing a measured sample of air(usually 1 000 linear feet) through a paper or membrane filter. A measurement is made of the intensity of light transmitted through the dust spot formed relative to that transmitted through an identical clean filter. The dirtiness of the air is reported in terms of the COH unit. This relates to the quantity of particulate material which produces an optical density, lg(I 0/I) of 0. 01 when measured by light transmission at 400 nm and relative to the transmission of an identical dust-free filter taken as 100%. Thus a filter which transmitted 50% relative to the clean filter has an absorbance of 0. 301 or 30. 1 COH units. This is not a recommended measure of filterable particulate matter since the size, colour and other properties of the aerosol and the air in which it is suspended affect the results. "High Volume Air Sampler" : A filtering device for particulate collection, used by the National Air Pollution Control Administration to determine the concentrations of suspended particulates in American urban and rural areas. A glass-fiber medium is used which can filter at the rate of 70 cubic feet per minute. The filter is over 99 percent efficient for the collection of particles as fine as 0. 3 um [micrometers] in diameter. High Volume Air Samplers generally run as long as 24 hours without an appreciable increase in airflow resistance.

Air-purifying respirators clean contaminated air before it is inhaled by passing the air through a cleansing media such as a mechanical filter, cartridge or filter/cartridge combination. The air is passed through the cleansing media by breathing or by a blower. These latter are called powered air-purifying respirators. Mechanical filter respirators are used for protection against airborne particulate matter such as dusts, mists, fumes, smoke, etc. Cartridge respirators are used for protection against gases and vapours. These respirators rely on the use of activated charcoal or chemical-treated sorbents to remove the gases and/or vapours. Where both particulate and gaseous contaminants co-exist, a combination of a chemical cartridge and mechanical filter is required.

An apparatus used for a process in which the molecules of either a gas or liquid are captured by solid material. Usually the capturing solid is activated carbon, which has a large surface area of capillary form (the carbon can be regenerated by steam, which drives off the adsorbed material in the form of a vapor that can be condensed along with the steam).
