PARTICULATE MASS [8 records]

Record 1 2020-12-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Pollution (General)
  • Environmental Studies and Analyses
CONT

Particle count may have [an] advantage over particle mass concentration for assessing the health effects of airborne particulate matter. … it is important to assess relationships between the variability of particle [numbers], as determined by an optical particle counter, and the variability of particle mass as measured by traditional mass-measuring instruments.

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
DEF

A product composed of thoroughly mixed resins and chopped reinforcing fibres, with or without particulate fillers, supplied in mass form, capable of being moulded under heat and pressure. [Definition standardized by ISO. ]

OBS

In bulk moulding compounds, high viscosity is achieved by chemical thickeners.

OBS

Reinforced molding compound include bulk molding compounds (in Europe, called dough molding compound (DMC), previously known as "premix" and sheet molding compound.

OBS

bulk moulding compound; BMC: term and abbreviation standardized by ISO.

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Spacecraft
CONT

Back Cover Subsystem(BCSS). The Back Cover protects the DM [descent module] during entry, ensures depressurisation during launch and carries multi-layer insulation(MLI) for the cruise and coast phases. Since it does not have to meet stringent aerothermodynamic requirements, it is a stiffened aluminium shell of minimal mass(11. 4 kg) protected by Prosial(5 kg). It includes : an access door for late access during integration and for forced-air ground cooling of the Probe; a break-out patch through which the first(drogue) parachute is fired; a labyrinth sealing joint with the Front Shield, providing a non-structural thermal and particulate barrier.

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

A counterpart to a particle, identical as to mass, lifetime and spin but with charge and magnetic moment reversed in sign.

CONT

Any of several species of subatomic particles that are identical in mass with electrons, protons, or neutrons but opposite in electrical charge or(in the case of the neutron) in magnetic moment. Thus a positron is an electron with a positive charge; an antiproton is a proton with a negative charge; an antineutron has no charge but has a magnetic moment opposite to that of a neutron. A photon has no antiparticle, since it has no particulate properties.(A photon is considered to be its own antiparticle). When an antiparticle collides with its opposite particle, both particles are annihilated and their masses are converted to photons of equivalent energy.

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Air Pollution
  • Environmental Studies and Analyses
  • Climatology
CONT

The levels of particles in the atmosphere may be considered in terms of both numbers and weight per unit volume. The numbers of particles in the atmosphere may vary from several hundred per cubic centimeter in ultraclean air to more than 100, 000 per cubic centimeter in highly polluted atmospheres. Most of the particulate mass in the atmosphere is found in the size range of 0. 1-10 µ.

  • Pollution de l'air
  • Études et analyses environnementales
  • Climatologie
CONT

DEF

The median measurement of particle size for samples of particulate matter related to diameter size and thus mass.

CONT

The term mass median diameter (MMD) is sometimes used to describe aerodynamically equivalent spheres having an assigned density of 1.00 g/cm3 at a 50% mass collection efficiency, as determined in samplers with spherical aerosol particles having a known, uniform size. ... The determination of MMD is accomplished by plotting the log of particle size as a function of the percentage of particles smaller than the given size.

CONT
