PARTING PRESSURE [4 records]

Record 1 2012-04-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mineralogy
CONT

Parting is caused by pressures that are applied to a crystal or by twinning. The pressure breaks the crystal on a plane of weakness. The plane between twins in a crystal can also break and form a parting plane...

CONT

Plan de séparation : Il ne s'agit pas d'un clivage particulier, ni d'une cassure, mais d'un «glissement», sous l'action de pressions, dans la direction d'un plan de macle. Les corindons, par exemple, montrent des plans de séparation.

Record 2 2012-04-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mineralogy
CONT

When minerals break along planes of structural weakness, they have parting. The weakness may result from pressure or twinning; and is parallel to crystalographic directions and thus resembles cleavage. Parting unlike cleavage is not shown in all specimens but only occurs in those that have been twinned or subjected to the proper pressure.

OBS

parting: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

CONT

CONT

On bottles with handles, the flash is most often removed in a downstream trim press. In this press, the bottle is held in a contoured nest where a punch, also countered, knocks off the tail, handle, and top flash. The flash cut from the bottle by the mold pinch-off is held in place by a very thin membrane.

CONT

Uniloy 350R2 eight-head intermittent extrusion blow-molder for the manufacture of 2 L (half gallon) handled milk bottles. ... Also shown is the flash trimmer.

OBS

Flash on molded plastic parts is that small amount of excess material which flows out through the parting line where the mold halves meet. Tumbling equipment may be used to remove the flash on simple parts while pressure blasting may be used for a great variety of parts.
