We present the modification of two ESA [European Space Agency] ground stations carried out in order to support the in-flight RF [Radio Frequency] validation of the Proximity Communication Equipment(PCE), part of the International Space Station(ISS). This subsystem plays a critical role during the docking of the Automated Transfer Vehicle(ATV), and has to be tested prior to each ATV launch, to ensure that the RF performance is as expected. For the check-out, an unmodulated signal is transmitted by the PCE during an ISS pass, and received by the two ground stations. Based on the strength of the received signal, the radiation characteristic of the complete PCE can be assessed, and compared with the nominal performance. The measurement process requires calibrating the receiving subsystem, including antenna, front-end and back-end equipment. The adopted calibration procedure, only relying on radio stars measurement, does not require the use of a calibrated source external to the ground station. 3, record 5, English, - proximity%20communication%20equipment

3, record 5, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20communication%20PCE

Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 OBS
A corona is generated by applying a high-frequency high-voltage signal to an electrode, which is separated from a grounded surface by an air gap and a dielectric. No current will pass through the air gap until there is enough voltage to affect the electrical breakdown of the air, typically 3, 000 to 5, 000 volts per millimeter. The corona treatment of the substrate results from the bombardment and penetration of these ions into the molecular structure at the surface of the substrate. It is the oxidation and polar-group formation in the surface molecules, in conjunction with the etching of the surface from the ion bombardment that induces the increase in surface energy of the treated material. 3, record 7, English, - corona%20treatment%20system

In biomedical applications nanoparticles are used as drug carriers or imaging agents. For this purpose the nanoparticle may have a hollow structure providing a central reservoir that can be filled with anticancer drugs, detection agents, or chemicals, known as "reporters, "that can signal if a drug is having a therapeutic effect. 5, record 12, French, - largeur%20de%20bande

The cathode-ray tube is also supplied with a range time base..., synchronized to the pulse transmission, and suitable calibration devices... are usually also necessary. The form of the display unit depends on the particular radar application, and on what coordinate or coordinates other than range are to be presented. For example, in the plan position indicator the time base starts from the centre of the tube and goes radically outwards in a direction depending on the azimuth of the beamed aerials(which sweeps continuously), and the signal is presented as a spot intensifier. 6, record 15, English, - cathode%2Dray%20tube%20display

The signals are then decompressed when they reach the television. The result is a clear, crisp picture that transcends any other picture formats. 1, record 17, English, - HDTV

Electrical resistivity fish counters... counting fish by noting changes in the electrical resistivity of water through which they swim was pioneered by Lethlean. The basis of his approach was to apply a low voltage across two volumes of water through which the fish to be counted are constrained to pass and detect the changes in their resistances caused by the presence of the fish... This device [electrical resistivity fish counter] amplifies the "out of balance" voltage caused by the presence of fish, passes this signal through logic circuitry and activates an appropriately labelled digit meter. 1, record 30, English, - electrical%20resistivity%20fish%20counter

3, record 30, French, - compteur%20%C3%A0%20r%C3%A9sistivit%C3%A9%20pour%20poissons
