A Go-NoGo gauge(or Go/no go) refers to an inspection tool used to check a workpiece against its allowed tolerances. Its name derives from its use : the gauge itself has two tests; the check involves the workpiece's having to pass one test(Go) and ’fail' the other(No Go).... Le principe du contrôle d'une grandeur mécanique par calibre à limite est basé sur l'utilisation d'un calibre ENTRE et d'un calibre N'ENTRE PAS parfois appelés GO et NO GO. En revanche, il renseigne sur le fait que la grandeur mesurée est dans la tolérance spécifiée et nécessaire pour assurer le fonctionnement d'un ensemble mécanique. The apparent opening size(AOS) or equivalent opening size(EOS)(they are equivalent terms) are defined in CW-02215 as the U. S. Standard sieve number that has openings closest in size to the openings in the fabric. The test uses known sized glass beads of designated number and determines by sieving... that size of beads for which 5% or less pass through the fabric.

AOS (apparent opening size) is the basic indicator of the pore size of a geotextile. The AOS test involves dry sieving of glass beads and ASTM D 4751 describes the standard methodology. The AOS actually measures the near-largest pore diameter in the geotextile. Using similar terminology as soil gradation, AOS is commonly expressed as O95 (based on retaining 95% of a given size glass bead). There are other indicators opening sizes that design methods have used such as O90, O98, Of or filtration opening size (FOS). When two different geotextiles (same O95 value) were compared, each geotextile might have different hydraulic behaviors.

Pour mesurer le FOS, on dépose sur le géotextile une quantité déterminée de billes de verre et on le soumet à une série d'immersions et d'émersions dans un bac rempli d'eau. Les particules sont alors entraînées à travers l'échantillon. Cette procédure simule des conditions que l'on retrouve dans des applications de filtration et de séparation. Selon certains, le FOS est donc le seul critère à appliquer pour la conception de filtres et de séparateurs. En effet, la procédure d'immersion et d'émersion force les particules à passer au travers du géotextile. Aussi, le fait de mouiller les particules pendant le tamisage élimine les forces d'électricité statique à la surface des particules et des fibres. Magnetoplasmadynamic(MPD) thrusters pass a large current radially outwards through a neutral plasma, from a central cathode to an annular anode. The radial current induces an azimuthal, circular magnetic field. The Lorentz body force acting on ions moving in the discharge current accelerates the plasma along the axis of the electrode structure. MPD thrusters operate at high power levels, kilowatts to megawatts, and provide high thrust with moderate specific impulse. A variant of this design uses an externally applied magnetic field to enable operation at lower power levels. MPD thrusters have been tested in the laboratory and have flown on test and demonstration missions. MPD thrusters are an insufficiently mature technology and consume too much power to be considered as candidates to provide primary propulsion of future out of Earth orbit missions and were not considered for SMART-1.

Soil Retention Tests. One variation of this test is directed toward the use of geotextiles as underwater silt curtains. The test device consists of two rectangular tanks which are placed end to end with slide gates facing one another. Between these two slide gates is the fabric specimen under test. The upstream tank(with the slide gate closed) is now filled with water that has a known amount of silt uniformly mixed in it. The gate valve at the exit end of the downstream tank is opened. Filter Fabric Soil Retention Test.... a laboratory test to evaluate the ability of filter fabrics to act as silt curtains or fences. The test apparatus consists of two plastic tanks... with one end of each tank being open and capable of holding the fabric to be tested in a fixed and vertical position. One tank is filled with water and given a dry weight of soil from the site of the proposed construction. After a prescribed mixing procedure the soil-water suspension is allowed to pass through the fabric separating the two tanks. Hydrometer analyses are used to evaluate the weight of soil in each tank and thereby the percent of soil passing the fabric. Head differentials allow for calculation of the velocities involved for repeated trials.

The most efficient method of verifying the integrity of a new existing sewer line is through low pressure air testing. To test a line to meet acceptance standards, the line is plugged at both manholes using the isolator Leak Locator Pluggs. The line is then pressurized using the isolator Air Test Panel to control both the plug inflation and test section pressures. To pass the acceptance test, the sewer must retain a specified air pressure for a specific period of time. Failure to hold the pressure indicates that a leak is present.

Soil retention test. One variation of this test is directed primarily toward the use of geotextiles as underwater silt curtains. The test device consists of two rectangular tanks which are placed end to end with slide gates facing one another. Between these two slide gates is the fabric specimen under test. The upstream tank(with the slide gate closed) is now filled with water that has a known amount of silt uniformly mixed in it. The gate valve at the exit end of the downstream tank is opened. The test begins by lifting up the slide gates on each side of the fabric and allowing the(turbid) water to pass through the fabric, which is acting as a submerged soil filter.... This test... is aimed at the reduction in turbidity of rivers and streams during adjacent construction activities. The other variation of a soil retention test is directed toward the use of geotextiles as aboveground silt fences.
